Role Overview
The Quarry Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile and fixed plant to extract, process, and load stone and aggregates. This role requires strong practical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining safety and environmental standards on site.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate heavy plant and machinery including loading shovels, excavators, dump trucks, and crushers.
* Carry out daily pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting on machinery.
* Assist with quarry extraction, stockpiling, and material loading operations.
* Monitor product quality and report any issues to the supervisor.
* Maintain a clean and safe work area, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Record operational data accurately (e.g. load counts, fuel usage, delivery dockets).
* Support site development works such as road building, drainage, and landscaping as required.
* Follow instructions from supervisors and work collaboratively with other team members.
Key Skills & Requirements
* Some experience operating heavy machinery (loading shovel, excavator, and/or dumper) in a quarry, construction, or farming environment preferred.
* Valid plant operator tickets (e.g. CSCS/QQI or equivalent).
* Strong mechanical awareness and ability to carry out basic maintenance.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Strong safety awareness and commitment to safe working practices.
* Flexibility to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to operational needs.
* Full driving licence.
Desirable Attributes
* First Aid, Manual Handling, or Safe Pass certification.
* Familiarity with weighbridge and materials tracking systems.
* Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
