Senior Speech Therapist Vacancy in Acute Hospital Setting
Location: Kildare
Hours: 35 hours per week (Full-time)
Contract: Fixed term agency contract, with potential for extension.

If you are a highly skilled Speech Therapist, we welcome your application to join an Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapy team in a Kildare Hospital.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Speech Therapist, who is ready to take up a senior role within a multidisciplinary team.
To be successful in this position, you will possess the necessary clinical expertise to provide high-quality assessment, diagnosis and intervention services for adult patients with complex communication and swallowing disorders.
The successful candidate will work closely with our established SLT team, assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders for adult inpatients. They will also contribute to patient outcomes and service development within the department.
The department delivers a high-quality, evidence-based service to adults across all acute care areas including Stroke, Age-Related Care, Critical Care, Respiratory, General Medicine, and Surgery. The department places a strong emphasis on supervision, mentorship, and continuous professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide therapy for patients with communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing difficulties.
* Manage a senior caseload including stroke, neurological conditions, progressive disease, and acutely ill elderly patients
* Deliver specialist dysphagia interventions using evidence-based best practice.
* Work closely with the MDT (medical, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy) to ensure holistic patient care.
* Provide training and education for hospital staff, patients, and families.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical records; contribute to audits, research, and service improvement projects.
* Participate in supervision and ongoing CPD.
Essential Requirements:
* Recognised qualification in Speech & Language Therapy
* CORU registration (or eligibility)
* Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, with significant clinical practice in an acute hospital setting.
* Dysphagia qualification and substantial acute experience in assessment and management.
* Experience in stroke, neurology, and/or other acute care specialties.
* Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and teamwork skills.
* Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, acute hospital environment.
