Assistant Professor in Irish Language Education

The development of Irish‑medium and Gaeltacht Education, and of Irish‑language education more broadly, is an overt policy priority in Ireland. The sector is engaging with challenges with respect to the changing sociolinguistic context of the Gaeltacht, changing demographics nationally, the supply and retention of teachers, and the provision of opportunities to develop educators’ practice as specialists in their field. These issues are a growing focus of research, teaching, and practice in Trinity’s School of Education.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a specialist in CEFR‑aligned Irish language teaching, learning and assessment and/or in immersion and Gaeltacht education and Irish language pedagogy. They will be fully conversant with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and European and national policy in relation to the Irish language. The post‑holder will teach and supervise on the Irish language education programmes in the School, including supervision of postgraduate student research, and will undertake research, knowledge generation and dissemination in the field of Irish language education.
Qualifications
Specialist in CEFR‑aligned Irish language teaching, learning and assessment or in immersion and Gaeltacht education.
Strong knowledge of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and European and national policy on the Irish language.
Experience in teaching and supervising Irish‑language education programmes.
Evidence of research activity with a plan for ongoing scholarship in Irish‑language education.
Employment Terms
Hours of Post: Hours of work for academic staff are those prescribed under Public Service Agreements.
Salary: Appointment will be made on the Assistant Professor Merged Salary Scale (109BN) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy €43,425 – €103,582 per annum. See http://www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly_academic.pdf
