Clongowes Wood College was founded in 1814 and is one of Ireland's oldest and most successful boarding schools with an enrolment of c.430.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced School Nurse on a Permanent Contract to be a part of our nursing team.
The Post
During term time, the College provides 24 nursing care to the boys, staff and the Jesuit community who reside int eh college. Term time consists of approximately 38 weeks a year, starting in late August and continues to the end of the exams in late June. .
Responsibilities for this role will include but will not be limited to the following duties:
* Running daily health clinics (morning and evening by appointment ) for the students, administering medication, assessing, diagnosing and managing day to day medical needs of a busy school population
* Providing emergency first aid for all students and staff including assessment and management of sports and occupational injuries
* Organising routine and emergency medical appointments, physiotherapy and other medical and specialist appointments in conjunction with parents and guardians
* Coordination and management of prescriptions and over the counter medication.
* Liaising closely with parents and guardians, school doctor, physiotherapist and school colleagues on the day to day medical needs of the students
* Coordination of annual vaccinations for Students, Staff and the Jesuit Community.
* Input and maintenance of student medical records and charges on the School Information Management System
* Monitor AED on site
* Advising on school health policy including the coordination and delivery of health education training programmes for students
* Undertake swabbing procedures for Coronavirus Testing
This is a part time, term time role. The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a team of 6 nurses who work 12 hour day and night shifts.. It is envisaged that the nursing team will work an average of 28 hours a week during the academic year.. Some weeks will be 24 hours and some weeks will be 36 hours. The nursing team do not work when the boys are not present in the College.
The Person
We are seeking enthusiastic and hard-working applicants who display a passion for nursing and caring of young adults. The successful applicants are likely to possess most, if not all, of the following qualifications and attributes:
· A relevant qualification in Nursing and registration with An Bord Altranais
· Experience in emergency first aid and / or sports injuries would be a distinct advantage.
· Knowledge of Paediatric illnesses and how to manage them
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact with boys, parents and colleagues at all levels, combining confidence and assertiveness in a calm, courteous and professional manner.
· Competent IT skills, including use of word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
· Tact and absolute discretion in dealing with all matters.
· Confident working and assessing medical needs independently.
· Able to work as part of a wider team of support staff and pastoral staff.
· Loyalty, energy, articulacy, and diplomacy.
· Flexibility in approach to people and to working arrangements.
· A professional, adaptable and proactive attitude.
· Able to respond calmly, quickly and willingly to urgent and unexpected requests.
