Job Title: EHS Advisor- Kerry
Reports To: EHS Manager/Project Manager
Job Summary
The EHS Advisor plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving health, safety, and environmental standards across multiple construction projects. This position involves working closely with site teams to ensure compliance with regulations, conducting risk assessments, and fostering a culture of safety. The EHS Advisor provides expert guidance on risk reduction strategies, ensures all personnel receive adequate training, and supports the EHS Manager in driving continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, they act as a key liaison with regulatory bodies and contribute to the implementation of sustainability and environmental initiatives.
Key Activities
Conduct regular site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company procedures.
Develop, review, and update risk assessments and method statements to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Deliver training sessions and toolbox talks to site personnel and subcontractors, promoting best practices in workplace safety.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
Ensure all necessary safety signage, PPE, and emergency procedures are in place and adhered to on-site.
Collaborate with project management teams to implement and monitor site-specific Construction Health and Safety Plans.
Enforce compliance with company policies, industry standards, and HSE legislation across all projects.
Support environmental initiatives, including waste management, pollution control, and energy efficiency measures.
Maintain and manage HSE documentation, such as statutory inspections, permits, incident logs, and audit reports, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies during site visits and inspections.
Provide proactive advice on safety performance improvement and risk mitigation strategies.
Act as a manager for specific direct reports, including Graduate EHS Advisors and Student EHS placements.
Manage workload across multiple sites.
Provide training and support for HammerTech for both new and existing staff.
Assist with incident investigations when required.
Support ISO site audit preparation for each assessment cycle.
Attend high-level meetings with senior management, including client-facing discussions and tender clarifications.
Continue involvement with IGBC and support in Sustainability/ESG tasks, including tenders and pre-qualifications.
Undertake additional instructor training, such as Working at Heights and Fire Awarenes
Competencies
Comprehensive knowledge of EHS regulations, risk assessment, and hazard identification
Proficiency in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and safety performance data analysis
Expertise in management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
Effective collaboration with project teams, subcontractors, and staff training on EHS practices
Adaptability to evolving regulations, project requirements, and proactive improvement initiatives
Strong organisational skills, communication skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety excellence
Education & Experience
Level 8 or above in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field (or equivalent qualifications)
Prior experience in EHS roles, preferably within the construction industry (internships or entry-level roles acceptable).
NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
Familiarity with HSE management systems and basic compliance audits is desirable.
Practical knowledge of construction safety regulations and environmental legislation.
Interest in developing skills in incident investigation, safety training, and environmental management.
