Legacy Fellowship Horn Creek (Internship) is a leadership internship/residency from mid‑August through August of the following year designed for recent college graduates. This program positions Fellows in either Van, Texas or Westcliffe, Colorado, providing housing, meals, and training in ministry and leadership within a Christian camp setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Year‑round responsibilities at all locations, include but are not limited to:
Assist with meeting needs of retreat groups by setting up meeting rooms, facilitating activities, and helping guests from arrival to departure.
Participate in experiential leadership development opportunities, studying and applying Biblical leadership principles.
Participate in community teambuilding and Bible study activities.
Contribute at least one article to the Fellowship blog.
Serve in a ministerial role with co‑workers and camp guests as needed—leading devotional times, praying individually and corporately, and mentoring others.
Handle all written correspondence (emails, letters, memos) accurately and timely.
Answer phones promptly, take accurate messages, and respond to information requests promptly.
Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch’s employee policies and procedures and with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties as required.
Non‑Summer Months, Van (Texas)
Teach Outdoor Education classes one or two days per week.
Assist in the absence of the retreat coordinator with security, gate radio, and urgent guest needs on a weekly rotation basis with other Fellows.
Assist in special project needs including facilities, curriculum, camper retention & registrations, summer staff recruiting, etc.
Non‑Summer Months, Horn Creek (Colorado)
Learn and assist with camp operations by rotating through various roles—maintenance, food service, hospitality, housekeeping, administration, activities, retreats, and marketing—to gain an understanding of each department.
Summer Months, serve in a leadership role at one of Sky Ranch’s summer camps (Day Camp in the DFW area, Summer Camp – Van, Cave Springs, Ute Trail, or Horn Creek).
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: In-depth understanding of camping and/or Christian ministry preferred, generally acquired through at least one summer of related camp ministry experience.
Knowledge:
Principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluating satisfaction.
Interest in leadership skills needed to influence people toward desired outcomes.
Skills and Abilities:
Personal and spiritual discipline that models a proactive approach toward personal, spiritual, and relational health.
Independent thinking and initiative.
Confidentiality and trust building.
Effective facilitation of meetings, conferences, workshops, and/or retreats.
Investigative and analytical abilities, drawing sound conclusions.
Clear communication of Sky Ranch’s vision to internal and external audiences.
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English; clear telephone and email communication.
Excellent listening, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
Ability to handle complex situations and make timely decisions.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally; proficiency in movement and basic agility.
Willingness to travel to various locations, including overnight stays.
Physical Demands
Physical effort is required on a routine basis; ability to use up to 50 pounds of force frequently and occasionally for moving, lifting, and carrying objects; physical agility for bending, reaching, crawling, stooping, and climbing step stools or ladders.
Work Environment
Works indoors in a normal office environment about half of the time and outdoors the other half, exposed to seasonal weather elements of specific camp locations. Must reside in on‑camp housing during the fellowship program.
Other Requirements
Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally; ability to fully support Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement. Active membership in a church aligned with Sky Ranch’s doctrinal beliefs.
Commitment to Sky Ranch’s Vision, Mission, Values (Who We A.R.E.) and Principles (WOW, Stewardship, Excellence) demonstrated in daily behavior.
Annual background check and child safety practices review as required for camp accreditation by the American Camping Association.
Compensation
Compensation: $12,000.00 per year.
