Overview

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting new West Apron Vehicle Underpass project at Dublin Airport. Join our dynamic team and make a difference!

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be involved in the quantity surveying area and be responsible for carrying out tasks assigned by the team manager, assisting other engineers with tasks, following guidance and contributing original ideas. The role holder is required to work closely with the construction management, engineers and surveyors to keep projects on track, and will be responsible for conducting desktop and field research, attending meetings, performing all practical and administrative duties assigned by the team manager, assisting on projects and writing up reports, offering suggestions for improvement.

Key Responsibilities

* Observe, assist & support the engineering team with the following tasks: understand project requirements and carry out tasks set by the supervisor/team manager.
* Shadow experienced colleagues, ask questions and assist wherever possible.
* Conduct research and collate data; analyse data and write reports according to specifications.
* Work closely and manage the relevant sections within the project; ensure all quality procedures set out in the Project Quality Plan are followed.
* Collaborate with all stakeholders on the project; deliver presentations to staff members and other stakeholders.
* Observe existing strategies and techniques and offer suggestions for improvement; follow health and safety guidelines.
* Participate in meetings and workshops; take notes and share findings with management and stakeholders.
* Work with staff to foster professional values and build good relationships.
* Communicate and liaise with sub-contractors and be responsible for their successful delivery in conjunction with the construction team.
* Measure quantities; assist with preparation of monthly financial statements of anticipated Final Accounts detailing status of variations (budget, submitted, agreed), in conjunction with project management.
* Other duties as determined by management.


Essential criteria

* Legal right to work in the Republic of Ireland
* Willingness to complete a 5-year background screening as part of the hiring process
* Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying or related discipline
* Ability to communicate effectively with customers, clients and stakeholders both verbally and in writing
* Interpersonal skills with ability to negotiate to achieve the best price from suppliers
* Logical problem solving with solid analytical skills and understanding of business processes
* Eager to learn with attention to numerical detail
* Excellent multi-tasking, time management and organisational abilities
* Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)


Desirable criteria

* Previous experience from student placement in engineering/construction
* Knowledge of or experience with engineering software
* Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
