The Role.
We are seeking a
Chemical Engineer
to join our HSQE Department. This role will combine technical chemical engineering expertise with health, safety, environmental and quality (HSQE) practices to ensure safe and sustainable project delivery. The successful candidate will support compliance, risk management, and innovation in chemical and environmental processes across our operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Provide chemical engineering expertise in areas such as water treatment, gas safety, hazardous substances, and environmental protection.
Support the HSQE team in managing chemical hazards and ensuring compliance with REACH, COSHH, and Irish/EU safety regulations.
Lead risk assessments related to chemical processes, hazardous materials, and environmental discharges on projects.
Advise project teams on the safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of chemicals.
Assist in developing and delivering training programmes for staff on chemical safety and environmental compliance.
Work with the Environmental Officer to ensure sustainability and pollution prevention in line with GMC's environmental management system (ISO
Monitor and analyse chemical/environmental data to identify risks and recommend improvements.
Investigate incidents involving chemicals or environmental hazards and support root cause analysis.
Contribute to innovation projects (e.g. new water treatment methods, sustainable materials, carbon reduction initiatives).
Ensure compliance with HSQE audits, inspections, and continuous improvement processes (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO
The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:
Degree in Chemical Engineering (or related discipline).
Proven experience in chemical engineering, ideally within utilities, construction, or environmental sectors.
Knowledge of Irish/EU health, safety, and environmental regulations relating to chemicals.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply engineering principles to HSQE challenges.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
