OverviewLocation: On site / Dublin, IrelandJob type: Permanent / Full-timeSector and subsector: Medical & Healthcare | Nursing & MidwiferySalary: Competitive SalaryJob Title: Staff NurseDepartment: Neuro Interventional RadiologyReports to: Interventional Radiology Nurse ManagerDate: 2026BackgroundAs part of the development of the Beacon Brain Institute a new designated neuro interventional radiology (IR) suite will be opening in the Summer of 2026. A neuro IR suite provides specialised care before, during and after minimally invasive, image guided neurovascular procedures such as endovascular coiling of brain aneurysms, cerebral angiograms and carotid stenting.PurposeProvide professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care for assigned patients while providing exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are at the center of all we do.Responsibilities and DeliverablesWork within professional guidelines as laid down by NMBI Code of Conduct for NursesAssist for neuro interventional radiology procedures including induction of anaesthesiaPerform admission, discharge and transfer proceduresPerform comprehensive neurological and haemodynamic assessmentsAbility to respond quickly to neuro emergenciesCarry out all Nursing practice in accordance with Beacon Hospital Policies; including the care, control and administration of medicinesMaintain accurate nursing records as per hospital policyCollaborate with neuro interventional radiology team and neurosurgical services team in order to provide a high standard of patient care and service deliveryMaintain and update own knowledge continuously, and participate in on-going education. Where determined as a service requirement, willingness to pursue relevant education and training to enhance scope of practice, for example new procedures in neuro interventional radiologyBe aware of the hazards which can occur within the Department, i.e. electrical, chemical and transport, and initiate preventative measuresMonitor and supervise the safe maintenance of equipment; reporting problems to the Clinical Coordinator or her deputyDeputise for the Clinical Coordinator in their absenceAssist with the duty roster in order to provide effective staffing cover to meet the needs of the department including weekendDiscuss any problems or potential problems with the Clinical Coordinator or Nurse in ChargeYou may be required to work in any service area as the need arises. Such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the Hospital authority through the Director of Nursing ServicesKeep up to date with mandatory training such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)Willingness to champion and promote the advancement of technology to enhanced organisation of nursing and delivery of patient care. This may include, but not limited to a “Train the Trainer” role in the context of Patient Records, Safe Staffing Framework and Dependency Acuity toolsFoster a learning environment for the benefit of staffAssist less experienced staff to develop their skills in NursingWillingness to act as a “Link Nurse” where required and carry out the duties in relation to same e.g. report writing, data collection, meeting attendance, peer support, training and education, facilitated through rostering by local ward managementLead / participate in unit specific and hospital wide quality improvement projectsUndertakes the collection, input and analysis of data as outlined in the quality improvement projects or as designated by the Line ManagerParticipate in the Joint Commissioning accreditation (JCI) process and preparationPerson SpecificationQualificationsBachelor of Science in Nursing essentialExperienceExperience in Neuro Interventional radiology is desirableJob Specific Competencies and KnowledgeTeamworkDemonstrate ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary teamDemonstrate motivation and an innovative approach to jobCommunication & Interpersonal SkillsDemonstrate effective communication skills including the ability to communicate information in a clear and concise mannerDemonstrate an understanding of change managementPlanning & OrganisingDemonstrate evidence of effective planning, organising and time management skillsDemonstrate flexible approach – to internal rotations, rostering e.g. weekend duty, on call, attitude to workKnowledgeDemonstrate evidence of recent and relevant experience in the specialised area and in an acute hospital settingDemonstrate knowledge of new developments in specialised areaDemonstrate knowledge of national strategies where appropriate to nursing careDemonstrate evidence of ability to empathise with and treat patients, relatives and colleagues with dignity and respectHave excellent communication and interpersonal skillsDuty hoursAll employees of Beacon expected to work flexible hoursNote This job description is intended to be an outline of the areas of responsibility and deliverables at the time of its writing.
