Head of Finance(Permanent Position)Purpose of this RoleThe Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the Irish Management Institute (IMI), reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The role holder is responsible for providing strategic financial direction, ensuring financial compliance, and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting to support organisational decision-making and growth.Key Responsibilities(This job description outlines the primary duties and requirements of the position. Financial Strategy and PlanningDevelop and implement a financial strategy aligned with overall organisational goals and objectives and provide strategic financial guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of DirectorsLead the annual budgeting processesMonitor financial performance against established KPIs and provide regular reportingIdentify opportunities for financial optimisation and efficiency improvements2. Financial Management, Reporting and OperationsOversee all financial operations, including accounting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, financial regulations and best practicesPrepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and quarterly Board reporting packManage cash flow, debt, and financial risk to include implementing and maintaining robust internal controls and financial policiesCoordinate with other departments to ensure a finance business partnering approach is maintained throughout the organisationBuild and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including auditors, regulators, and banking institutionsReview and approve key financial contracts and agreementsCo-ordinate preparation of financial information for regulatory submissions and compliance purposes3. Audit and Compliance (Financial)Co-ordinate and manage external auditsAddress audit findings and implement corrective actions4. IMI recognises the importance of flexible work arrangements and promotes a hybrid work model that combines in-person and virtual work. Employees have the flexibility to work remotely for a part of their working hours, subject to operational requirements and the agreement of their line manager as outlined in the Work Life Balance Policy. Travel within Ireland and, occasionally, internationally may be required to attend meetings, conferences, and client engagements.Qualifications and ExperienceEssential RequirementsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related fieldProfessional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent professional qualification in financeMinimum 8–10 years of experience in a senior finance leadership roleStrong understanding of financial management principles, budgeting, and strategic planningProven experience managing internal and external audits and compliance frameworksExcellent analytical, communication, and people skillsAbility to lead, mentor, and motivate a finance teamStrong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent organisational and project management skillsHigh level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgmentAbility to work effectively under pressure and manage competing prioritiesStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracyProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and financial software systemsDesirable RequirementsExperience in a Higher Education Institution or professional services organisationExperience with ERP systems and integrated financial softwareExperience working with Boards or supporting governance committeesIMI is committed to protecting your personal information.
