Hiring for a Farm Assistant role has been initiated by a large Public Sector organisation. The successful candidate will be required to work until the end of December 2025, with possible extension. This position can be either full-time or part-time and will involve flexible working arrangements, including weekends. A rota system will be in place, where weekend working will be expected.
The key responsibility of this role is to ensure the smooth operation of the farm while providing optimal care for the animals. Duties will include ensuring the timely feeding of animals and the preparation of feed. The candidate must demonstrate a high standard of general animal care, including routine veterinary procedures. Regular monitoring of animal condition and reporting to the Farm Supervisor if further assistance is required is also essential. Additional duties may include maintaining horse grooming and harnessing, meeting and greeting visitors in a friendly and polite manner, and assisting in demonstrations of traditional farming practices such as field cultivation.
Applicants should have a qualification in agriculture or at least one year's experience working in a farm setting. Knowledge and passion for traditional heritage farming and breeds are essential, as well as the ability to communicate this knowledge effectively to a general audience. Experience managing a variety of animals is also required. Having a full clean driving license and access to a car would be advantageous. Furthermore, experience working with horses, ponies, or donkeys, particularly in harness, is desirable. Working in an environment with high visitor numbers is also beneficial.
