Objective of the traineeship A traineeship in the Operational Policy, Mandates and Non-EU Operations Department, Outside Europe A Division (JU/OPS-POL/OEU-A) gives aspiring lawyers the opportunity to engage in the application of legal principles to real-life issues in the context of the ElB's lending activities in certain countries outside the EU, notably in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Caribbean and Pacific Islands.
It offers a broad and international experience in a multilateral financial institution, beneficial to those looking to develop their career in the field of banking and finance law as well as development finance.
You will gain first hand experience of the life cycle of EIB lending operations.
The tasks to be carried out include research, diligence, drafting of legal documentation and assisting in the negotiation of the legal documentation in all stages of the project cycle (structuration, signature, disbursement and monitoring).
Responsibilities As a trainee in the JU/POL-OEU-A Division, your main tasks and responsibilities will be:
Legal research and diligence in relation to matters of French, English, Spanish and/or Luxembourg law, as well as in regard to principles of law applicable in non-EU countries Diligence in regard to the selection of external counsels Assistance to lawyers in the review of approval documentation for new operations and post-signature changes Assistance to lawyers in the preparation of legal and finance documentation Supervised drafting of basic legal and finance documentation Assistance to lawyers in signature formalities and transaction monitoring (including disbursements and other post-signature events) Academic qualifications and professional skills Enrolled in the final year of or have completed a Master's degree in Law or an equivalent qualification.
This includes, but is not limited to:Education in the French system: enrolled in the final year of or have completed a Master's degree in Law or an equivalent qualification, and preferably have undergone professional training to the level of bar school (école de formation du barreau).
Education in the UK or Irish system: enrolled in the final year of or have completed a Master's degree in Law or an equivalent qualification, preferably followed by successful completion of the LPC 1 exam and/or LPC 2 exam (for aspiring solicitors in England), or have equivalent examination success in solicitor or barrister training in Ireland or Scotland.
Professional skills and knowledge:Ability to draft, analyse and report coherently in relation to legal issues.
Training in and knowledge under the relevant national legal system of contract law, civil responsibility, company and commercial law.
Knowledge of banking law would be an advantage.
Languages:Excellent knowledge of written and spoken French and/or English.
Knowledge of other languages spoken in countries covered by the team, especially Spanish, would be an advantage.
