Job Title:Assistant Scheme Director
Location: Southeast GP Training Scheme site
Reporting to: Scheme Director
Contract type: 3-year fixed-term contract
Time Commitment: Part-time, 1.5 days per week (equivalent to 3.5 sessions)

Job Purpose:
The Assistant Scheme Director is part of the educational team for a GP Training Scheme, delivering high-quality coordinated training for doctors in specialist general practice training. They assist the Scheme Director in promoting high-standard training. Duties may vary as the needs of the College evolve.
Key Result Areas:
1. Undertake duties related to teaching, assessing, and facilitating small-group sessions with trainees (both face-to-face and virtual).
2. Assist with curriculum planning, including developing teaching materials and resources; deliver curriculum through small group and plenary sessions.
3. Promote reflective practice and professionalism among trainees; provide support and mentorship.
4. Conduct trainee assessments and manage feedback related to assessments.
5. Monitor trainee progression, provide portfolio guidance, and support progression including education portfolios.
6. Ensure attendance and contribute to competency progression reviews.
7. Contribute to developing assessment instruments.
8. Support GP Trainers and hospital supervisors; assist with day release management.
9. Perform quality assurance tasks, contribute to scheme improvement, recruitment, curriculum evaluation, and quality processes.
10. Participate in committees and collaborate with the Scheme Director and National Programme.
11. Attend at least one Educational Conference annually (preferably both).
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will possess:
Experience and Qualifications:
If resident in Ireland:
* A fully qualified GP with MICGP, in good standing.
* Registered with the Irish Medical Council on the Specialist Division for General Practice.
* Enrolled and compliant with the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme.
* Active in general practice.
If outside Ireland:
* Eligible for MICGP.
* Eligible to register with the Irish Medical Council on the Specialist Division for General Practice.
* Must enroll in and comply with the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme if appointed.
All applicants:
* Substantial experience as an independent GP.
* Extensive experience in GP training, nationally or internationally.
* Familiarity with the ICGP GP Training Curriculum and commitment to ongoing improvement.
* Leadership and management experience in postgraduate medical education.
* Higher qualification in medical education or equivalent.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Hold or have held a part-time clinical appointment of at least four sessions/week for at least three years within the last two years.
* Experience in quality assurance in higher education.
* Innovative, adaptable, and proactive in project work; regional familiarity.
Additional skills include strong communication, organization, teamwork, self-motivation, initiative, workload management, and leadership abilities.
