Reports to: Head of Department of Media

The School of Fine Art within the College comprises of 5 departments:

· Department of Painting

· Department of Print

· Department of Media

· Department of Applied Materials

· Department of Sculpture and Expanded Practices

The School of Fine Art supports students to develop highly individual and collaborative ways of seeing, interpreting, and acting visually in the world.
Emphasis is placed on visual awareness and artistic analysis, and on acquiring and deploying appropriate skills across a spectrum of fundamental and new materials and media.

School of Fine Art – Department of Media Fine Art Media is focussed on supporting students from BA to MFA, and MRes to PhD in developing their ideas and building their art practice in the areas of Expanded Photography, Moving Image, Animation, Sound, 3D Modelling, Performance, Algorithmic Processes and Augmented / Virtual Reality.
Our studios and workshops include specialist facilities unique to the department, staffed by lecturers and technicians with deep knowledge of each discipline area.
Media students explore the rapidly changing world of Expanded Photography – from high-end studio & gallery images to social media channels and phone apps.
Moving Image work involves studio techniques, camera skills, lighting processes, audio-recording, green screen procedures and experimental animation (digital and analogue), along with skills in the post-production suite.
Critical Making practices experiment with technology – such as sensors, lights, conductors and motors – to make things that interact with the physical world through movement, light, touch, or sound.
In New Media, our students explore online spaces and the relationships between virtual and physical worlds, working with generative software and multimedia installation strategies.

Salary: €46,311 - €73,443 per annum pro-rata, i.e. €37,****** - €58,****** per annum

Candidates should note that as per Department of Finance guidelines, entry will be at the first point of the salary scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with government pay policy.
Candidates should note that different pay and conditions may apply if, immediately prior to appointment, the appointee is a serving civil or public servant.

Hours of Attendance: Working hours will be 28 hours per week (net of rest breaks).

Location: This position is ordinarily based at the NCAD Campus, 100 Thomas Street, Dublin 8.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Provide technical assistance to workshop users, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the techniques and processes involved in the operation of equipment in the Media Department, with particular emphasis on moving image art.

· Demonstrate as required, techniques and processes in the operation of all equipment and software associated with moving image work in an art context.

· Demonstrate the use of cameras, audio & lighting equipment, and associated post-production software.

· Co-operate with and provide supportive assistance to staff and to students in bringing their conceptual ideas to fruition.

· Help students overcome specific technical problems that they encounter.

· Assist in the design and development of practical classes.

· Assist in supervising students in the workshop.

· Assist in the development of student practical notebooks.

· Support teaching generally and demonstrate as necessary.

· Engage in appropriate administrative duties particularly regarding Health & Safety, store maintenance and purchasing.

· Managing, tracking and maintenance of equipment and studio booking/management.

· Maintain equipment and conduct research to advise the department on new equipment and technology purchasing as required.

· Stock-take and manage the storage of materials and equipment.

· Order, store and record appropriate equipment and material stocks.

· Implement and adhere to all Health and Safety regulations at all times.

· Ensure workshop areas are organised to facilitate efficient and safe functioning.

· Working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, School and College where required.
· Undertake any other such appropriate duties, which may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Department.

· Maintain records of Risk Assessments as provided by a suitably qualified person.

Selection Criteria Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.
Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory:

· Academic qualification or equivalent relevant experience in the subject area of moving image art in the art & cultural sector, film & TV, or in a third-level educational setting.

· An excellent understanding of audio-visual processes and techniques.

· Excellent knowledge of post-production software (Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Dragonframe).

· An excellent skill set in demonstrating and supporting students throughout the workflow of moving image projects:

Studio shoots (incl. lighting, audio, cameras) Location shoots (incl. lighting, audio, cameras and location-specific planning) Green Screen shoots Editing and post-production processes and workflows for the above Delivering completed work into a wide range of appropriate contexts, formats and file-types – from high-end gallery installations to online, mobile and social-media platforms · Experience in utilising and maintaining audio-visual hardware to a professional standard.

· An excellent understanding best practices for ensuring health and safety.

· Excellent organisational and solution-focused skills.

· Substantial experience of working with emerging digital technologies and in blended learning environments.

· Strong capacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, School and College.
· Commitment to CPD and interest in emerging research, technology and techniques.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Excellent communication skills.

· Strong leadership skills.

· Ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable · Experience of delivering skills training within a professional development context.

· Skills in interactive and digital art installation techniques, including TouchDesigner software and projection-mapping processes.

· Skills in the techniques and processes of analogue (e.g. stop-motion) and digital animation (e.g. gif)

· Working knowledge of experimental 16mm analogue film techniques and processes.

· Familiarity with the field of lens-based, digital and interactive art in Ireland and internationally.
