About the post: RCSI is leading the transformation of surgical training in Ireland through the implementation of the National Robotic Surgery Curriculum, endorsed by the Irish Surgical Postgraduate Training Committee (ISPTC). With major investment in multiple robotic platforms RCSI is establishing a world-class Robot Training and Research Centre at 26 York Street. This post is central to realising that vision-bridging education, operations, and research to deliver a sustainable, high-impact national and international robotic training programme. The principal objective of this role is to lead the operational, commercial, and research development of RCSI's Robotic Surgery Training and Research Centre. The post holder will not require a clinical or surgical background. Instead, they will bring strong organisational, business, and project-management skills to ensure the Centre runs efficiently and sustainably. They will coordinate the delivery of the National Robotic Surgery Curriculum (with full support from faculty and simulation staff), manage the operational and financial running of the Centre, facilitate advanced and commercial courses, and build partnerships with industry and academic stakeholders to grow the programme and its research output. Job Responsibilities Programme Leadership and Delivery Oversee and facilitate the smooth running of the National Robotic Surgery Curriculum at all levels. Coordinate course scheduling, logistics, and faculty support; no clinical teaching required. Manage procurement, setup, and maintenance of training models and consumables. Ensure operational excellence and high participant satisfaction. Support faculty and educators in delivering advanced training; ensure the required resources, equipment, and administrative systems are in place. Contribute to the delivery of select training sessions or programmes when required. Support other simulation or education programmes within Surgical Affairs as needed, including new course and programme development. Business and Operational Management Lead the commercial and business development of the Robotic Surgery Centre. Develop a financially sustainable model through course revenue, partnership agreements, and research collaborations. Oversee budgets, contracts, invoicing, and cost control in collaboration with RCSI Finance. Monitor profitability and reinvest programme income into model development, trainee support, and faculty activity. Identify and pursue opportunities for new courses, external partnerships, and international collaborations. Contribute to departmental initiatives beyond robotics when required, supporting innovation and growth across Surgical Affairs. Research and Data Management Facilitate and coordinate the collection, organisation, and reporting of research data from all robotic training programmes. Support faculty, trainees, and students in the preparation of abstracts, conference submissions, and publications. Maintain databases and dashboards to track programme outcomes and research metrics. Industry and Institutional Partnerships Build and maintain relationships with robotic platform vendors, academic institutions, and professional organisations (e.g. European Association of Urology etc). Develop partnership proposals, sponsorship models, and collaborative initiatives that expand the Centre's international footprint. Represent RCSI at national and international meetings and support marketing and outreach efforts to promote the Centre. Lead the public relations and communications activities for the robotic programme, promoting achievements, milestones, and educational events through social media and RCSI communication channels. Support the wider Surgical Simulation and Human Factors programmes by sharing updates, photographs, and highlights to enhance visibility and public engagement. Knowledge & Experience: Essential Proven track record in programme or operations management, ideally in healthcare, simulation, or industry start-up environments. Demonstrated business development and financial management experience. Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including engagement with clinicians, educators, and industry partners. Strong organisational ability, initiative, and leadership in setting up and scaling new programmes. Analytical skills for monitoring budgets, data, and performance indicators. Enthusiasm for innovation and education within a healthcare training environment. Desirable Degree in business, project management, biomedical engineering, or related field (no clinical qualification required). Experience in medical technology or device industry (e.g. hospital robotic start-up specialist or technical training roles). Experience with simulation technologies or surgical robotics (advantageous but not essential). Project-management or business-qualification (PMP, PRINCE2, MBA, etc.). Experience managing research databases or supporting data analysis.
