Overview of role:
The Radiology Department provides services to both inpatients and outpatients, including General Radiography, Theatre Imaging, Ultrasound, Mammography, MRI, CT, and DEXA. The post holder will work as part of the Radiology Department and multidisciplinary teams, delivering high-quality MRI services following professional standards. They will lead, guide, and supervise radiographic staff, assisting in managing the General X-ray and Fluoro Imaging services, including theatre imaging.
The senior radiographer should possess strong leadership, management skills, and professional competence, including autonomous practice. They must adapt to a rapidly changing environment and undertake additional duties as assigned. The role requires responsibility, initiative, and comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic radiography, as well as awareness of team roles and limitations.
The role involves setting and meeting performance indicators to improve service quality, standards, access, and leadership within the department. The working week is 35 hours plus on-call duties.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Manage workload and resources effectively, demonstrating leadership and strategic planning.
* Deputise for the CSR during absences.
* Perform complex radiographic procedures adhering to legislation and professional standards.
* Develop protocols with consultants for patient management and surgical decisions.
* Organise and prioritise workload, implement evidence-based practice, and influence practice change.
* Coordinate patient scheduling and resource utilisation.
* Contribute to operational policies, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Supervise and teach junior staff and students.
* Ensure equipment selection, troubleshooting, and safety protocols are followed.
* Maintain accurate clinical data and manage consumables efficiently.
* Assess patient suitability for procedures involving I.V. injections.
* Participate in continuous learning and professional development.
* Ensure compliance with radiation safety, infection control, and health and safety policies.
* Lead in quality assurance, incident reporting, and service development.
* Support sustainable practices and review departmental DRLs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree in Radiography or Diploma of The College of Radiographers, registered with CORU, with at least 3 years post-qualification clinical experience. Postgraduate specialization is desirable.
