The Role:
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following
* Identify pathways and trading strategies to maximise the return for clients assets in the Single Electricity Market. Minimise the impact of balancing costs for assets, minimise forecasting errors and actively trade assets in available markets. Review and improve the commercial return for client from the energy, capacity market and ancillary service markets and other forms of revenue e.g. constraint compensation.
* Provide leadership on behalf of client on market and industry associations. Present and deliver clients position, regarding aspects of the market design, in a clear and concise manner and advocate for changes that will benefit the client business. The successful candidate must stay ahead of energy trends and advises senior leadership team on opportunities to help maximise commercial returns for the company.
* Trade analysis and supervision, portfolio optimisation and daily trading operations required to participate in SEM. Review and maintain sufficient market collateral levels and processes and procedures to underpin operational and business continuity. Build and cultivate productive working relationships internally and externally with industry working groups (e.g. EirGrid, SEMO, EAI, ESI, WEI). Ensure our trading platform is maintained and developed to meet our current and future needs.
* Manage the preparations and development of future trading activities for an expanding power generation portfolio including trading new assets, Future Power Markets, Future Arrangements for System Services, amongst others. Understand and communicate internally all market changes and energy policy implications, including SEM-C consultations, balancing market and capacity market modifications.
* Lead ad-hoc projects as required by senior management, e.g. establishment of trading and operations processes for items such as Corporate Power Purchase Agreements; Gas Trading Operations. Manage and lead the trading areas of Prompt, Forwards and Future Power Markets which in turn are led by three team leads. Interact and support the broader Asset Management and Trading team, engaging with other managers to deliver the best result for client.
* Have strong understanding of the operation of thermal, renewables and battery storage assets in the SEM. Analyse current and future market conditions and have strong understanding of key influences on energy prices for the business and key risks and opportunities for the business.

* Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team's objectives.
The Person:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge, and attributes:
* Hons degree in Science, Engineering or Energy Economics/Policy a pre-requisite.
* 8 years + at senior trading/Trading Manager level in wholesale energy markets.
* Experience of managing a team in a Performance Management environment required.
* Experience of external stakeholder engagement desirable.
* Knowledge of SEM, Trading and Settlement Code, Bidding Code of Practice; power trading; system services; excellent decision-making skills; team player; good judgement and decision making; strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills; a self-starter who can work on their own initiative.
* Experience in Power Generation, Energy, Commodities & Power Trading Desirable.
* Understanding of European power market regulations, Prompt Trading, REMIT, EMIR.
