Role: Civil Estimator Location Base: Head Office Loughrea, Co.
Galway Salary: Competitive salary The Role We are seeking a capable and driven Civil Estimator to join Glanua, a recognised leader in the water and wastewater sector.
This role is well suited to a professional with 5 to 10 years of experience who is ready to contribute to high quality tendering activity across Uisce Eireann's municipal programme and AMP8 frameworks with Thames Water, United Utilities and Yorkshire Water.
As a Civil Estimator, you will prepare accurate, well structured and commercially sound estimates for civil engineering works across treatment plants, pumping stations and network upgrades.
You will work collaboratively with our design, project management and procurement teams to support the development of cost effective, buildable and compliant solutions that reflect Glanua's commitment to technical excellence.
Your responsibilities will include evaluating the constructability of designs, assessing materials and construction techniques and identifying opportunities for improved value.
You will also support optioneering and early stage tender development by providing indicative pricing and informed cost insights.
The role demands a strong grasp of civil engineering principles, attention to detail and the ability to operate effectively within a fast paced tendering environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: The main duties and responsibilities of the Civil Estimator are outlined as follows:
1. Estimate Preparation Prepare detailed and accurate civil engineering estimates based on drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
Ensure estimates reflect appropriate levels of construction risk and align with company guidelines and industry standards.
2. Participation in Design Development Support the design development process by evaluating buildability, construction sequencing and material selection.
Provide early stage pricing to support optioneering, budget development and identification of cost effective solutions.
3. Risk and Governance Compliance Assist in ensuring that risk management, governance and approval procedures are followed and fully documented.
Prepare clear assumptions, exclusions and clarifications that support robust tender submissions.
4. Tender Preparation Contribute to tender preparation and construction programmes.
Support the development of staff schedules and resource plans based on civil engineering delivery needs.
5. Procurement Planning Work with procurement teams to identify suitable civil subcontractors and suppliers.
Issue enquiries, review responses and secure competitive quotations for groundworks, concrete, formwork, rebar, pipelines and associated civil works.
6. Technical and Industry Awareness Maintain an up to date understanding of construction methods, civil engineering technologies and sector developments.
Apply this knowledge to enhance the accuracy, relevance and competitiveness of estimates.
7. Financial Modelling Support Assist in the development of financial models for tenders and frameworks, including labour, plant, materials and civil production rates.
Support internal price fix meetings with clear cost insight and supporting information.
8. Cost Coding and Feedback Use the standardised cost coding system to support financial tracking, benchmarking and continuous improvement.
Provide feedback to strengthen estimating tools, cost libraries and civil production rates.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Civil Estimator are outlined as follows:
1. Experience 5 to 10 years of experience in civil estimating in the water, wastewater or wider infrastructure sectors.
Experience preparing civil engineering estimates for treatment plants, pipelines, earthworks or similar construction projects.
2. Skills Strong analytical and numerical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Solid understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methodologies.
Competence in estimating software, digital take off tools and Microsoft Office applications.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
