Role Purpose As a Mechanical Piping Engineer, you will take ownership of the engineering and coordination of mechanical piping systems on a designated construction project.
You will work closely with the project team to oversee design integration, installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality benchmarks.
Mechanical Piping Engineer Responsibilities In collaboration with your project team, your responsibilities will include:
Review and manage all piping-related design documentation and drawingsAttend project handover and design coordination meetingsIdentify value engineering or cost-saving opportunities within piping scopeProduce and review coordinated piping layout drawings, including isometrics and spool drawingsEnsure technical compliance of piping installations through thorough review of specifications and drawingsPrepare and assess piping-related technical submittals and RFIsSupport procurement through requisitions and PO generation for piping materials and equipmentTrack and verify delivery and receipt of piping components on siteOversee pipe fit-up, welding, and installation in line with codes and client requirementsWalk down piping systems against P&IDs and ensure full system traceabilityPopulate and manage test packs for pressure testing and flushingLiaise with QA/QC to close punch lists and ensure quality complianceEnsure all piping works comply with health, safety, and environmental regulationsPrepare method statements and risk assessments specific to piping activitiesSupervise and coordinate piping subcontractors on-siteContribute to weekly progress reporting and attend project review meetingsAssist in commissioning and handover documentation of piping systemsRequired Qualifications and Experience Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Building Services or equivalent trade qualification4+ years of relevant experience in mechanical piping engineering with a contractorProven ability to deliver piping scopes within commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, or data centre projectsStrong knowledge of piping materials, specifications, and installation standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM)Skilled in reading and interpreting P&IDs, piping layouts, and isometric drawingsExperience with piping system walkdowns, testing, and commissioningFamiliar with piping codes and QA/QC processesEffective communicator with strong coordination and problem-solving skillsStrong commercial awareness and ability to assess scope changes or variationsExperience working with document control platforms and engineering software toolsDemonstrates initiative, leadership, and ability to mentor junior engineers
