Job Description
Overview of Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board: The largest education and training provider in counties Kilkenny and Carlow, offering a broad range of education and training services to approximately 25,000 students and learners annually. We manage 13 post‑primary schools and are the leading provider of Further Education and Training (FET).
Purpose of the Post: Assist the Assistant Staff Officer in FET. Duration: 6 months, 30 hours per week. The successful applicant will gain practical experience, valuable training and will develop a working knowledge of communications, office management, record keeping and data analysis.
Responsibilities
* Provide administrative assistance within FET.
* Provide a professional and friendly approach in dealing with all learners, staff and management.
* Assist in the development of improved working practices, including digitisation of paper‑based systems.
* Assist in the promotion of self‑financing night classes and recording of statistical data to achieve improved service delivery.
* Deal sensitively with correspondence, telephone enquiries or personal callers, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
* Assist with raising invoices on the finance system.
* Undertake relevant training and development activities and respond positively to new and alternative systems.
* Any other duties assigned from time to time.
Training and Development
* Accredited and sector‑recognised training provided during the placement.
* Informal training shadowing & observation.
* Draft social posts, newsletters and internal messages for feedback.
* Help update website content or intranet pages.
* Support for the Assistant Staff Officer.
* Learn file‑naming conventions, brand asset libraries, and project management workflows.
* Time management and organisational skills.
* Formal training: KCETB Finance System, raising POs and invoices, data gathering, promotional activities, recording of statistical data.
About the Workplace
The post is part of the FET Service, which offers a wide range of full‑time and part‑time courses, including apprenticeships, basic education, community education and Youthreach. The KCETB manages 13 post‑primary schools across Kilkenny and Carlow and is the leading provider of Further Education and Training.
