Senior Database Systems Administrator
Location: Dublin 4
Contract Start Date: November 2025
Contract Duration: 24 months (with up to two extensions of 12 months each)
Working Model: Hybrid – minimum 2 days onsite per week, with flexibility for remote work (subject to agreement).
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Systems Administrator to join our team. The successful candidate will act as the database authority, overseeing the design, management, optimisation, and security of critical databases across Oracle, MS SQL, and PostgreSQL technologies. This role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to manage complex projects, and a proactive approach to database innovation and performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the database authority across multiple technologies.
* Implement updates and maintain logical/physical models in distributed development environments.
* Liaise with database vendors and provide expert technical support.
* Design, develop, tune, and maintain packages and procedures across Oracle, MS SQL, and PostgreSQL.
* Administer corporate and sectoral databases across development, UAT, pre-live, and live environments.
* Ensure compliance with database vendor licence agreements.
* Manage database security, access control, and backup/restoration.
* Provide expert advice to development teams and analysts working with SQL and procedural SQL.
* Troubleshoot database and GIS integration issues.
* Monitor and optimise database performance, including real-time telemetry (e.g., ELK stack integration).
* Develop, maintain, and enhance ETL procedures.
* Contribute to the management of GIS resources, including database integration.
Mandatory Requirements
* Experience: Minimum 7 years' senior-level experience in database management and development with at least one of Oracle, MS SQL, or PostgreSQL.
* Qualifications: Honours degree (Level 8 NFQ or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Mathematics, or another relevant field.
* Language: Fluent in English. Where not a native speaker, proficiency at CEFR level C2 (or equivalent) is required. Fluency will be verified during the selection process if not certified.
Key Experience, Competencies & Skills
* Hands-on expertise in Oracle, MS SQL, and PostgreSQL database administration.
* Experience managing Oracle 10g (or higher) on Windows O/S platforms.
* Strong background in databases containing GIS spatial data and spatial plugin management.
* Proven ability to design reliable and optimised databases, including performance tuning of procedural SQL.
* Experience providing ongoing support, creating documentation, and communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Full lifecycle expertise: design, build, testing, and ongoing support.
* Migration and redevelopment of legacy systems and databases.
* Implementation and configuration of database telemetry (e.g., ELK stack).
* Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders across different business units and organisations.
