A leading European retail organisation with an extensive operational network is seeking an accomplished Legal Director to lead its national legal and compliance function. This is a senior strategic opportunity for an experienced solicitor who combines sharp legal expertise with strong leadership and commercial acumen.
The Role
As Legal Director, you will oversee a multidisciplinary department covering Legal Services, Compliance & Risk Management, Data Protection, and Insurance. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior management and the Board, ensuring sound governance, effective risk management, and full regulatory compliance across all business areas.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading, developing, and empowering a high‑performing legal and compliance team.
Advising the executive team and Board on commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters.
Overseeing contract negotiation, drafting, and management.
Managing insurance claims and associated risk frameworks.
Driving compliance with data protection, governance, and reporting standards.
Championing continuous improvement and best practice across the business.
Acting as a central liaison between the legal function and operational teams.
About You
Qualified Solicitor in Irish or UK law (experience across European jurisdictions advantageous).
5+ years’ experience in a senior in‑house or private practice role within a fast‑paced commercial organisation.
Demonstrated success leading teams and managing multi‑disciplinary projects.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Strong commercial awareness, integrity, and decision‑making ability.
Experience in corporate governance, risk management, and data protection.
