Position: Livestock/ Sow Procurement Officer
Location: Rosderra Irish Meats Edenderry
Reports to: Pig Procurement Manager
Team: Pig Procurement Department
Based at the Edenderry plant, this role is part of a small team managing the procurement of pigs and sows for Rosderra Irish Meats. Working closely with the pig procurement manager, the role involves identifying, sourcing, and securing sows through developing relationships with suppliers and farmers.
This position requires engaging with pig farmers to ensure the purchase and delivery of sows, building professional relationships, and working in a live logistic environment that demands quick reactions and plan adjustments. The role also involves developing long-term supply relationships.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, good with figures, capable of closing deals, and able to develop market insights and strategies to meet price-dependent requirements. Excellent verbal communication skills, negotiation abilities, and relationship-building are essential.
Main Responsibilities
* Source and purchase sows for processing operations.
* Conclude purchase agreements.
* Maintain and build relationships with suppliers to make Rosderra the preferred choice for sow disposal and sales.
* Conduct market analysis and maintain a database of herd size, suppliers, and locations.
* Understand factors impacting purchase prices.
* Provide data to management as needed.
* Collaborate with the sales team to meet customer demand.
* Develop customer propositions and close sales.
* Project volume and potential for the sow business across Ireland.
* Report on supplier quality and quantity standards.
* Manage sow scheduling cost-effectively while ensuring welfare standards.
* Monitor sow weights and trends.
* Recommend improvements for operational efficiency.
* Develop purchasing propositions and maintain stakeholder relationships.
* Support the booking officer and procurement manager.
* Learn and utilize pricing models, both local and international.
Person Specification
* Knowledge of farming and livestock sectors.
* Experience or understanding of buying and selling livestock.
