The ISPCA Mallow Equine Rescue Centre, Co. Cork is seeking an enthusiastic Animal Care Assistant to join their team.

Due to the nature of our work, we require that the applicant has:
* Excellent animal handling experience with equines and canines.
* A basic level of education to include written and spoken English.
* A keen interest in animal welfare.
* Good communication and organisational skills.
* The ability to work efficiently under pressure, as part of a team and on their own initiative.
* Resilience and the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations.
* A full clean driving licence.
The following skills would be an advantage:
* Experience with felines, small mammals and wildlife.
* Experience caring for and rehabilitating sick, injured and traumatised animals.
* Animal behaviour evaluation and assessment skills.
* Ability to tow a horsebox and/or drive a tractor.
Who We Are and What We Do:
Set on 55 acres, the ISPCA Mallow Equine Rescue Centre (MERC) holds up to 50 equines at a time. Our team pride themselves on the care given to rescued horses, ponies and donkeys from across the country.
While equines remain our largest number of animals in the centre, we also care for dogs, cats and other small animals.
Due to the nature of our work, we also have a 24 hour a day Employee Assistance Programme available to all employees. This service is confidential and is completely free for our employees.
Some of the main duties and responsibilities of this role would include:
* Providing care by routine checking, feeding, medicating, grooming, weighing, worming and rehabilitating the resident equines and canines (and any other species we may have), and assisting the vet, farrier and dentist.
* Preparing equines, canines and other animals for re-homing.
* Maintenance of the farm and centre, by sweeping, power washing, disinfecting, cleaning yards and barns, poo picking paddocks as well as cleaning and disinfecting kennels and maintaining all canine areas.
* Use of all farm machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient way, adhering to legislation, policies and procedures.
* Undertaking fencing projects and maintaining same.
* Providing care by operating machinery and/or manually, mucking out, feeding and bedding up of barns and stables and distributing hay, haylage and bagged feedstuffs.
* Carrying out general farm maintenance duties including for example the replacement of water troughs, the cleaning of water troughs and fencing.
* Supporting the Farm Supervisor/Farm Manager in maintaining a safe working environment by following identified risk assessments, following Health and Safety regulations, and by maintaining farm security.
* Maintaining up to date manual records for the equines, canines and farming practices.
* Providing feedback on a daily basis to the Supervisor/Manager on matters such as equine/canine health, feeding regimes and land management, and liaising with other staff to facilitate smooth running of the centre
* Support of work experience students, and interacting with visitors and volunteers in a friendly manner.
* Carrying out any other reasonable duty as may be required.
