The role of Mechanical Engineer - Design is to support design Senior Mechanical Engineer and to work as part of a construction design team to ensure the effective completion of the design scope in accordance with the project specifications and regulatory requirements. The role involves design review & QAQC of the BIM model content for compliance with the Client's specifications for the specific work areas.
Typical tasks include but are not limited to the following:
* Ensure works are carried out safely to industry, site and client specific safety requirements, this includes interpreting Client's specifications and reviewing BIM models against those specifications.
* Review Design Packs, including P&ID, Keyed Notes and identify missing parts within BIM library.
* Analyse supplier catalogue's and select components as per project specifications.
* Request drawings and/or models from suppliers to enable addition to the BIM Library. Liaise with part manufacturers to produce new parts for the BIM library in conjunction with the BIM Librarian
* Read 2D drawings and as needed create 3D models to enable above.
* Support the design Senior Mechanical Engineer in meeting project deadlines by proactively managing assigned preparation, review, BIM and QAQC tasks.
* Resolve all enquiries and clarifications (RFIs) in a timely manner.
* Ensure all BIM outputs align with project specifications, company procedures, and the Senior Mechanical Engineer's design requirements.
* Review modelled piping designs and ensure there are no constructability issues, raise requests for information and track same.
* Liaise with design teams on BIM model content and provide constructive feedback on the works via BIM QA process. Provide guidance to the BIM team on spec's, fittings, and base information from the client - close out design reviews with them also.
* Prepare BIM QA Issue Lists and assist with any additional information necessary for close out of same.
* Translate Senior Mechanical Engineer's concepts, sketches, mark-ups, and technical guidance into accurate BIM models, drawings, and coordinated layouts.
* Seek clarification from external stakeholders if questions arise during design stage.
* Attend client, sub-contractors and internal meetings as required.
* Attend site visits as required to verify existing conditions, clarify missing information, and gather site data to support accurate mechanical design and BIM model development.
* Assist the Senior Mechanical Engineer, BIM Manager & Project Manager with the internal and external project status reporting.
* Maintain all relevant project data on business systems, and document sharing portals.
* Adherence to project quality plans and internal processes and standards.
* Office based role 5 days per week.
Person Specification
Education, Training & Experience
* Degree Qualification Mechanical Engineering, Construction or equivalent.
* Proficient in suite of Microsoft applications including Word and Excel.
* Hands-on experience using BIM software and QAQC of BIM models produced in Revit, CADWorx, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, NavisWorks or equivalent packages.
* Ability to read and interpret detailed P&ID drawings.
* Min 1 year's relevant work experience as mechanical engineer in mechanical design role. Semiconductor industry onsite experience is advantageous.
* Experience in process industry like piping fabrication, installation and testing is hugely advantageous.
