Duties
This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career.
The YMCA Dublin Youth Services team caters for young people from the age of 10-24 and actively engages them in the local community to support both the young people and their families. Youth Work provides a fun, safe environment where young people can engage in activities that encourage personal growth, develop life skills through voluntary engagement, and meet new people. The Youth Services Assistant will work with young people, adult volunteers, parents, and other members of the YMCA Dublin team.
Key Responsibilities
Engage with young people appropriately during youth clubs or group mentoring sessions.
Assist in school provision, including helping with homework.
Act as a positive role model.
Support in developing and facilitating activities with the young people.
Supervise young people on trips.
Work with team members to plan weekly programmes and daily activities.
Assist in completing daily handover and attendance.
Assist in out-of-term activities including trips and events.
Undertake practical training in youth work, play work, child protection, etc.
Perform any other duties related to the delivery of YMCA Youth Services.
Abide by YMCA Policies and Procedures, including Child Protection and Health & Safety.
Community Employment Programme Overview
YMCA Dublin offers a three-year phased Community Employment (CE) Scheme role designed to provide participants with meaningful work experience, on‑job learning, and accredited training to support progression into long‑term employment or further education.
Year 1: Employment induction and fundamentals in youth work.
Year 2: QQI qualifications and targeted learning.
Year 3: Further responsibility with tasks, work placement, CV and interview preparation.
Employment Details
Hours: 19.5 hours per week (part-time)
Schedule: Afternoons & evenings – Tuesday & Wednesday afternoons 12:30‑4:45pm, Friday evenings 4:30‑9:30pm and Saturdays 1:30‑7:30pm. Flexibility required.
Location: Dublin 13 & Dublin 17 – Parkside as primary location.
Support: Laptop provided, regular supervision, access to training.

Ability to empathise with, support and motivate young people.
Basic computer knowledge.
Qualifications
Eligibility to participate in the CE program generally linked to those who are 21 years or older and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Eligibility will have to be verified by the Department. Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form.
