About UsRetail Financial Solutions (RFS) provides data-driven financial automation and analytics solutions for the grocery retail sector.Our flagship platform, EzFlo, consolidates sales, cash, and operational data into powerful analytics used by retailers across Ireland and the UK.We are continuing to invest heavily in technology innovation — expanding our cloud capabilities, modernising our data architecture, and integrating automation and AI into our analytics solutions.The RoleWe're looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take technical ownership of our data and analytics platform as we transition from on-premise SQL Server and SSIS to a modern, cloud-based data environment.This is a hands-on leadership role focused on designing, building, and optimising scalable data solutions that underpin our analytics and automation products.You'll have the opportunity to influence the choice of cloud technologies, define best practices for ingestion and transformation, and shape how data flows across the business.You'll work closely with the Head of Technology and Lead Software Engineer to create a reliable, performant, and future-ready data platform that supports analytics, financial automation, and AI initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design, build, and delivery of a new cloud data platform, selecting the appropriate tools and technologies.Oversee the migration of existing SSIS and Python orchestration processes into a unified cloud environment.Develop data quality, validation, and lineage frameworks to ensure reliability and transparency.Design scalable data ingestion pipelines for ePOS, accounting, and third-party systems.Implement data validation, monitoring and alerting to maintain accuracy and reliability.Optimise Power BI datasets and reporting performance.Collaborate with software engineers to improve integration between systems.Establish standards for data modelling, cost optimisation, and operational excellence.Contribute to the long-term data roadmap, including AI and predictive analytics readiness.Experience & Skills5+ years' experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics platform development.Strong SQL Server background (data modelling, optimisation, ETL).Demonstrated experience building or migrating to cloud-based data solutions (Azure, AWS, or GCP).Skilled in designing data pipelines, orchestration, and transformation workflows using modern tools.Familiarity with Power BI modelling, dataflows, and refresh performance.Solid understanding of data governance, lineage, and reliability practices.Strong problem-solving and delivery mindset – practical, not theoretical.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Nice to HaveExperience with tools such as Azure Data Factory, dbt, Airflow, or equivalent.Knowledge of AI/ML integration, data observability, or metadata management.Background in retail, financial, or SaaS data environments.Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure automation for data platforms.What We OfferOpportunity to build and lead a next-generation cloud data platform from the ground up.A collaborative, pragmatic, and forward-thinking technology culture.Flexible hybrid or remote working within Ireland.Real influence on architecture, product direction, and technology choices.Competitive salary with room to grow as the platform scales.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentBenefits:Company eventsEmployee assistance programSick payWork from homeExperience:data engineering / analytics platform development : 5 years (required)Language:english fluently (required)Work Location: Remote
