Job Title: Design Manager

* Overview:
* The role involves overseeing a team of designers in specific areas and taking responsibility for the creation of network design packs for new customer connections. These packs are created to Network standard and used by construction crews and contractor staff to carry out work safely on the electricity network.
* Liaising and negotiating with landowners, local authorities, and other stakeholders to obtain permission/waive leave for overhead and underground cable routes is also a key aspect of this role.
* The completed designs are updated to the distribution Network system becoming live and part of the electrical system.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Manage design workload as agreed with the Senior Design Manager.
2. Manage and lead the design team including providing feedback to the team and development of the team.
3. Prioritise design work and allocate work as required to engineering officers / designers.
4. Review design processes as required to ensure they deliver an excellent customer service while ensuring relevant standards are maintained.
5. Participate in the organisation and scheduling of work.
6. Ensure the preparation of high-quality designs by providing technical support and assistance to the design team.
7. Ensure designs for major reinforcement and renewable projects are delivered in a timely manner as part of the capital delivery program.
8. Ensure Customer Charter timelines are adhered to.
9. Ensure As-Builts are returned in a timely manner.
10. Gain and maintain an excellent knowledge of HV, MV and LV Electrical Networks across all Asset types (HV Stations, Protection Systems, Overhead Lines, Underground Cables etc).
11. Preparation, verification and approval of designs, scopes, costs, design risk assessment and preliminary health & safety plans as required.
12. Coordination of other resources involved in the design and scoping of works e.g. ecologists, archaeologists, asbestos surveyors, site investigations etc.
13. Compliance with H&S Legislation and liaison with H&S Advisors.
14. Fulfilling the role of PSDP Contact Person where required.
15. Managing the delivery of designs through contractors as required.
16. Ensure the liaison/negotiation is carried out, in line with ESB Policies, with local authorities, landowners and other parties to obtain the relevant consent prior to construction.
Requirements:
* A 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
* A minimum of 7 years relevant experience is essential.
* Implements standards and policies to ensure optimum design.
* Knowledge of network assets; Sub-Station, Lines, Cables, Protection and Metering.
* Understands and applies the relevant approved Quality Management standards in ESB Networks.
* Good Communication and Interpersonal skills to facilitate both internal team building with own team, construction team and externally to Major Customers, Land Owners, Local Authorities, etc.
* A Full clean driving licence.
* ESBN IT systems knowledge (e.g. IWM, GIS, E Plan).
Location:
Finglas. Regular travel to site and within and outside the region will be a feature of the role.
