Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level within UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science Uveal melanoma is an aggressive eye cancer with limited treatment options once it spreads, and there is a real need for better tools to detect metastasis early and monitor how well treatments are working.
The aim of this project is to examine two types of tumour-derived particles in the bloodstream, namely circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) and extracellular vesicles (EVs) as novel sources of biomarkers.
The central research question is whether we can use these biomarkers to identify the development of metastasis.
In parallel, novel therapeutic compounds for metastatic UM will be tested in laboratory models to discover therapies that could improve survival and quality of life for patients.
This patient- focused project, carried out in collaboration between University College Dublin, the Cancer Clinical Research Trust, and leading Irish hospitals, aims to build a clear pathway towards more precise and effective care for people with this challenging cancer.
