Network Engineering Manager – Cork or Dublin (Hybrid)
Salary: €80,000 – €100,000
The Network Engineering Manager is a role with strong focus and experience on both traditional on-prem networking and Cloud networking, as well as SDWAN. This role requires the candidate to be comfortable leading a team of network administrators/engineers, located around the globe, with a strong focus on Operations and Support. The candidate will need strong budgetary skills and be competent in talking to all levels of the organisation.
This position is part of the Network Team and reports to the SVP of Infrastructure Services – Network. This role interacts closely with IT architects, engineering groups, system admins, application support, and development groups worldwide.
The main responsibilities of this position are:
* Oversee routine maintenance activities, like patching of network devices, software upgrades, tech refreshes.
* Maintain a high level of customer service to our clients (internal and external).
* Responsible for proactive and reactive monitoring of the global network, including WAN and LAN at the datacentres and at the remote offices worldwide and our cloud networks.
* Strive towards operational excellence, continuous improvement, process stream-lining.
* Possess strong traditional networking and cloud networking experience and understanding.
* Show strong understanding of network security concepts and practices.
* Escalation point for complex troubleshooting. Recognized across the organization for his/her/their expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of unique or complex problems.
* Contribute and review the team's processes, policies, configuration standards, etc.
* Develop Infrastructure as Code practices with focus on Networking.
* Build cloud infrastructure topology and environments, by means of automation (AWS Cloud Formation, Azure ARM templates, pipelines, etc).
* Strong familiarity with SDWAN.
* Elevate the skills of the Network Team in the area of cloud networking.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the activities of the Network Operations Team to align priorities with the needs of the business.
* Level 2 and level 3 support of the network infrastructure.
* Monitor the performance of the on-prem and cloud network infrastructure, and strive to resolve issues before they impact users.
* Capacity management and capacity planning for the network infrastructure.
* Manage Priority One problems to closure.
* Mentor the rest of the team to elevate their technical and soft skills and impulse their professional growth.
* Ongoing and annual appraisal of subordinate staff.
* Present budget requirements at year end and justify capital and operational expenditure.
* Show excellent decision-making skills that are business and client centric.
* Strong troubleshooting skills.
* Abide by established processes, procedures and policies.
* Maintain the on-call rotation calendar and participate in the on-call rotation.
* Keep informed on new developments and products in our technology area and recommend implementation of new solutions as appropriate.
