About the team and the role:
eBay is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff for their Cloud Databases and Storage organization, which builds and runs a petabyte-scale core data platform that powers large-scale database, storage, caching, and media infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to architect, build, and operate the next-generation distributed database and storage platform that supports critical systems in eBay’s global ecommerce business. You will be responsible for scaling eBay’s core data infrastructure by collaborating closely with engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.
What you will accomplish:
* Build and manage massively scalable database and storage systems for eBay.
* Lead data infrastructure design and implementation using your expertise in distributed systems, storage, and large-scale databases, collaborating with skilled peers.
* Work in an agile environment focused on problem solving and engineering excellence, assessing technology challenges, designing solutions, and driving implementation.
* Collaborate with architects, engineering leaders, and product managers to develop innovative solutions that meet functional and non-functional standards.
* Guide junior and senior engineers within your team and across other cloud teams, advocating for high standards in building scalable, high-speed distributed systems.
* Contribute to all phases of product development, including design, testing, release, bug fixing, and documentation.
* Bring innovative ideas to adapt to technological developments and industry best practices, creating lasting impact for eBay and its customers.
What you will bring:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science plus 10+ years of experience, or MS in Computer Science plus 8+ years of hands-on experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
* Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
* Experience in architecting, designing, and developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems, storage, and databases.
* Extensive hands-on experience with Object-Oriented Design, Distributed Programming, and proficiency in C++, Java, and various database systems (NoSQL and relational).
* Ability to drive architecture discussions, produce detailed design documentation, and participate in code reviews.
* Commitment to code quality and maintainability, with experience in evolving architectures and standards, refactoring, and improving build and test systems.
* Willingness to share support responsibilities for an always-on 24x7 site.
