The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Maynooth is seeking to recruit a senior post-doctoral researcher. The successful candidate will be part of an EPA funded project on Estimating and Projecting Population Exposure to Extreme Sea Levels in Ireland, led by Prof. Niamh Cahill.
The project aims to bring together and deploy cutting-edge approaches to small-area population estimation and modelling of population movements in the context of examining population exposure to extreme sea levels in low-elevation coastal zones (LECZ) in Ireland. The objective is to develop insights into population movements from vulnerable coastal communities to destinations of potentially displaced persons, to inform coastal vulnerability decisions and infrastructure planning.
Objectives of the project include:
* Enhanced Population Exposure Assessment: Improve methodologies for assessing population exposure to sea-level rise and ESL events at small-area levels, accounting for spatial variations and demographic characteristics to better inform adaptation planning.
* Assessment of Climate-Induced Migration Trends: Conduct a comprehensive analysis of internal migration trends within Ireland to understand drivers, patterns, and impacts, and project future trends under scenarios where sea-level rise and ESL drive climate-induced migration.
Salary
Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher: €54,308 p.a. (1 point - with increment)
Post-Doctoral Researcher: €46,305 - €52,862 p.a. (6 points)
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
