About Your New Employer
The successful candidate will join a team of Automation Engineers, focusing on PLC programming and HMI screen development. You will lead assigned automation projects to ensure timely, efficient, and high-quality delivery to their global medical device customers.
This role involves working in a multi-platform environment with software such as Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, and Siemens. Collaboration with the engineering design team on process flow diagrams, software design specifications, and test plans is essential. A strong background in automation/software development and an understanding of the full software/application development cycle are required.
About Your New Responsibilities as an Automation Engineer:
* Develop, install, and debug code for new machines and updates to existing machines, ensuring compliance with specified customer requirements, including system integration and testing to GAMP 5 level.
* Ensure all work complies with required standards, conforming to company (cGMP) guidelines.
* Analyze, understand, fault-find, and modify software programs in-house, on customer sites, and remotely.
* Support the development of automation documentation, including process flow diagrams, software design specifications, automation test plans, and electrical sheets with IO lists, working closely with the project team.
* Specify automation hardware for projects with support/review from the Automation Manager.
* Maintain focus on software quality principles—maintainability, dependability, efficiency, and usability—in terms of code structure, documentation, revision history, and storage.
* Review and recommend changes to machine design based on software requirements/implications.
* Collaborate closely with the automation team, external developers, project designers, electricians, and operations to ensure all inputs and requirements are considered, delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.
What Skills You Need:
* Third-level qualification in electronics, automation, computer science, or a related engineering discipline.
* Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in PLC program development with one of the following: Allen-Bradley (Control/Compact Logix), Beckhoff (TwinCAT 3), or Siemens (TIA Portal).
* Excellent understanding of machine automation logic and motion control.
* Experience in developing HMIs or other operator interfaces.
* Robotics integration experience (KUKA, ABB, Fanuc) is an advantage but not essential.
* Machine vision integration experience (Cognex, Keyence) is an advantage but not essential.
* Experience working as part of a project team designing and building new automated machines to meet customer-specific requirements.
