The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all plant equipment and facilities.
This role oversees the full maintenance function including planned preventive maintenance (PPM), breakdown repairs, capital expenditure (CAPEX) project delivery, and facilities management.
The Maintenance Manager leads a team of mechanical and electrical technicians, ensuring high performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across all maintenance activities.
KEY Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, coach, and develop a multi-disciplinary maintenance team (mechanical fitters, electricians).
Manage daily workload allocation, performance, training, and competency development.
Build a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Support recruitment and succession planning within the maintenance function.
Preventive & Reactive Maintenance Own the PPM schedule, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and to the required standard.
Prioritise and oversee corrective maintenance and breakdown response to minimise downtime.
Monitor equipment performance, reliability, and failure trends; implement improvement actions.
Maintain accurate maintenance records within the CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Infor).
CAPEX Delivery & Engineering Projects Lead end-to-end delivery of capital projects, from scoping and budgeting to installation and commissioning.
Prepare business cases, project plans, schedules, and risk assessments.
Manage contractors, suppliers, and OEMs to ensure safe and timely project execution.
Ensure all modifications and upgrades comply with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
Facilities Management Oversee building services including HVAC, utilities, compressed air, fire systems, security systems, and grounds.
Ensure statutory inspections, calibrations, and certifications are completed (e.g., lifting equipment, pressure systems, electrical systems).
Manage external facilities contractors and service providers.
Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and in line with company procedures and legal obligations.
Carry out risk assessments, method statements, permits-to-work, and safety briefings.
Support audits (internal and regulatory) and close out findings.
Promote a safe working culture through visible leadership and continuous improvement.
Financial & Operational Control Manage the maintenance budget (OPEX & CAPEX), ensuring cost control and value for money.
Maintain stock levels of critical spares and consumables.
Produce monthly maintenance performance reports (KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, PPM compliance).
Qualifications & Experience Essential Degree or higher certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
5+ years experience in industrial, manufacturing, or process-plant maintenance.
Strong experience managing teams of mechanical and electrical trades.
Proven track record in delivering CAPEX projects and engineering upgrades.
Strong understanding of PPM, reliability-centred maintenance, and CMMS use.
Excellent knowledge of health & safety regulations and safe-system-of-work practices.
Experience working with external contractors and service providers.
Desirable Experience in a highly regulated environment (e.g., pharma, food, medical devices, chemical, heavy industry).
Training in lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
Project management certification (Prince2, PMP, or equivalent).
Experience with energy management or sustainability projects.
Electrical or mechanical trade qualification as a foundation.
