Job Title: Lecturer in AI and Machine Learning for Life Science Department: School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences Reporting to: Head of School or nominee Location: 123 St. Stephens Green, Dublin 2 Contract/Duration: Full-time, Permanent Closing Date: 22nd July, 2025 Objective of this post are to: Design, deliver and continuously improve undergraduate and postgraduate teaching that integrates AI/ML theory with practical applications in biomedical science, including but not limited to our BSc 'Advanced Therapeutic Technologies' and MSc 'Technologies and Analytics in Precision Medicine'. Bring practical, real-world AI/ML experience from working directly with clinical, biomedical, pharmaceutical, or life science data - for example, multi-omics, medical imaging, health records, digital biomarkers, or clinical trials. Sustain an internationally competitive, interdisciplinary research programme applying advanced AI/ML to challenges in human health and the life sciences. Proactively seek funding and build research partnerships with clinical teams, biopharma, digital health start-ups, or public health bodies. Specific Responsibilities include: Teaching : Preparation, delivery and assessment in the broad curricular areas of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence in Health, on our undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, as required, ensuring at all times that teaching material is innovative, up-to-date and in line with international best practice, Demonstrate a student-centred approach to all duties to ensure optimal educational outcomes. Lead development of innovative modules that apply AI/ML techniques to real datasets from genomics, clinical trials, or medical imaging. Incorporate ethical and explainable AI practices relevant to life sciences research. Participate in cross-functional teams to design and deliver academic programmes. Contribute to the quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of all programmes delivered in the School. Participate in the delivery of our teaching learning, assessment and feedback strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning. Maintain and develop the School's relationship with clinical and industrial teaching/placement sites (as appropriate). Research : Engage in internationally competitive innovative research and knowledge transfer activities in the area of Artificial Intelligence/machine learning in Health, aligned to designated areas of priority for the School and the College. Actively seek funding to support these, either independently or as part of a team, and generate high impact research outputs consistent with expectations at this level. Contribute to and support ongoing academic and industry-based research collaborations within the School, nationally and internationally. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects across the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. Contribute to School thesis review committees as required. Service : Comply with statutory legislation and departmental rules and requirements in furtherance of your own, staff and student welfare and safety. Competent discharge of academic administrative duties and engagement across the School and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in aspects such as attendance at examination boards, team meetings, interviewing prospective students, attendance at Open Days, outreach events etc. Support activities to realise RCSI's vision in embedding AI and digital health in education and research practices Promote the best interests of RCSI at all times, enhancing the School's reputation in both research and education. Support students through student centered initiatives, such as personal tutoring/mentoring, and other initiatives, as appropriate. Foster and supporting links with national and international academic partners. Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time. Qualifications - (Essential): Has a PhD degree or equivalent in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related area Has clear evidence of applying advanced AI/ML methods in life sciences, biomedical research, or clinical domains. Experience with large-scale health or biomedical data (e.g. genomics, proteomics, imaging, EHR) and relevant statistical modelling. Knowledge & Experience - (Essential): Has clear and demonstrable experience in the delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Artificial Intelligence Has a teaching related qualification (desired) Has a sustained track record of both senior authorship of papers in high quality peer-reviewed journals and of securing competitive grant funding in areas related to Artificial Intelligence Has experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students Can function effectively within a team, using clear and effective communication. Requires minimum direction to effectively deliver on assigned functions, and demonstrates a positive, student-centred and solution focused approach to addressing challenges and ambiguity. Has flexibility to work irregular hours on occasion.
