FT Recruitment is working with a leading employer in the construction and engineering sector to appoint a Financial Controller.
The role is an understudy to the CFO (CFO designate) and the successful applicant will be expected to evolve into the CFO role over a 2-3 year period.
As a key member of the management team, the FC will ensure the smooth running of the accounting department and financial accounting function up to and including delivery of the agreed Business Plans, Cost Management Programmes, Process Improvements and Business Strategies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Analysis Oversight of all accounts and budgets Sign off of Year-End accounts and analysis Financial reports and analysis on specific areas requiring attention Budgeting forecasting projections Working closely with operational management Preparing and monitoring weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual rolling budget information Responding decisively to budget deviations ensuring the appropriate action is taken Ad hoc reporting and preparing analysis and projections to aid decision making.
IT Responsible for existing systems and where appropriate, implementing improvements and upgrades.
Treasury / Banking / Working Capital Management WC/Cashflow management on a daily basis through effective reporting systems and active participation in the business.
Monthly reporting on leasing and any other financing General Bank Account Management Preparation of Project Funding Proposals Relationship building with key providers Audit, Tax and General Compliance Year end Audit and Audit Liaison Tax Returns and Compliance Tax Planning Devising / Overview of all accounting controls Payroll Turnover / Margin by business division Insurance oversight Key reports for management of the business and managing the managers Capital Expenditure Implementing strong procedures for evaluating and acquiring capital assets Financing Tax Planning Knowledge, Skills, Experience required Qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years experience in a senior finance role Experience in construction / project accounting highly desirable Previous experience of managing an accounting function in a challenging and dynamic commercial environment Proven track record in all facets of financial management and control covering financial/statutory reporting, costing, WC/Treasury management, IT systems, investment appraisal and management, legal and tax compliance.
A strong background and involvement in strategic commercial management Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels throughout the organisation and externally.
