ROLE PURPOSE
Staff Physiotherapists are required to rotate through the following:
* ICU/cardiothoracic units
* Orthopaedics
* Medical/surgical wards -covering respiratory, oncology, neurology, mobility/falls assessment
QUALIFICATIONS
* Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
* CORU registered
* Continued Professional Development Diary including evidence of reflective practice, In-service training, courses attended and Clinical Governance gained
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To be responsible for the provision of a high-quality physiotherapy service in accordance with the standards of professional practice.
To carry a clinical caseload appropriate to the post. Where a physiotherapist is unsure regarding treatment progression, they are responsible for seeking advice from a more senior member of staff.
To be responsible for assessment, planning, development, implementation and review of individualised treatment/intervention programmes that are patient centred in line with best practice for the relevant patient group.
Be responsible for goal setting in partnership with patient, their family and other team members using their specialist clinical skills and knowledge.
Develop appropriate and individualised patient education and discharge planning and utilise available resources for same.
Collaborate with other health care team members within the defined clinical area in accordance with the patient care plan to enhance effective patient care
Develop discharge criteria from time of admission.
All Physiotherapists are required to participate in ongoing education and keep abreast of current developments and research to ensure that a high standard is maintained.
Provide safe, comprehensive care based on current standards and research, perform
procedures according to established policy and procedures.
Assist the physiotherapy manager in service development encompassing policy development and implementation.
Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely accurate and safe manner.
Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
Advocate as necessary for the patients, respecting their dignity and confidentiality.
Adapt to changing workloads, providing a service in various locations in line with local policies /guidelines and within appropriate time allocations.
All Physiotherapists are required to participate in the on-call rota covering orthopaedics and/or cardiorespiratory weekends.
Participate in on-call service where it is required of the post.
All Physiotherapists may be asked to undertake other duties as delegated by the senior Physiotherapist or Physiotherapy manager.
Communication Skills
Maintain documents according to the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic.
Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate personnel.
Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions.
Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the health care team in providing an integrated quality service, taking the lead role as required.
Recognise self-limitations and seek assistance.
Attend and contribute in staff meetings and team briefing.
Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.
Professional Expectations
Operate within the scope of practice of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
Communicate and work in co-operation with the physiotherapy manager and other team members in providing an integrated quality service.
Document Patient records in accordance with professional standards and department policies.
Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the hospital as required.
Seek and take education opportunities in addition to those provided by the hospital.
Seek advice of relevant personnel when appropriate/as required.
Participate in mandatory training programmes.
Take responsibility for, and keep up to date with Physiotherapy practice by participating in continuous professional development such as reflective practice, in service, self-directed learning, research, and clinical audit, etc.
Present a professional appearance and be punctual.
Develop and promote professional standards of practice.
