Aughinish Alumina, situated on a 1,300‑acre site on the Shannon Estuary, is one of the leading industrial plants in Ireland and the largest alumina refinery in Europe. The company processes approximately 2 million tonnes per annum and operates a 150 MW combined heat and power plant. It has a history of continuous improvement and is now considered a world leader in aluminium production.
Responsibilities
* Perform and assist with structural designs of new and existing structures.
* Carry out visual inspections of key structural assets and develop condition reports and recommendations about their structural integrity.
* Work with draughtsmen to produce structural tender and construction drawings.
* Develop structural scopes of work, including design details that use relevant Codes of Practice together with Aughinish specifications.
* Liaise with contractors, plant safety and construction teams throughout construction to ensure accurate implementation of the projects.
Qualifications
* Degree qualified, ideally holding a BEng in civil or structural engineering with related work or project experience.
* Good appreciation of structural steel and reinforced concrete design.
* Ability to design from first principles, develop design concepts, understand 2‑D drawings, and produce good sketches for development.
* Strong engineering aptitude with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Interest in heavy‑industry manufacturing.
