23 Months, Specific Purpose Full-Time Post Position Summary The successful candidate will be based in the Ma REI Centre for energy, climate and marine headquartered in the Sustainability Institute in University College Cork.Submit your CV and any additional required information after you have read this description by clicking on the application button.Ma REI is a key research centre within UCC's Sustainability Institute, which is an internationally recognised Institute for environmental research dedicated to the understanding and protection of our natural environment and to developing innovative technologies, tools and services to facilitate a transformation to a zero carbon and resource efficient society.The Ma REI Centre is a Research Ireland funded research centre, which includes for 13 other Universities and Third Level Institutes from across Ireland, has 100 industrial partners and has accumulated research funding of over €130m.It combines the expertise of a wide range of research groups and industry partners, with the shared mission of solving the main scientific, technical and socio-economic challenges across the climate, energy and marine spaces.Ma REI is also funded by SEAI, EI, EPA, ERDF, EU, HEA, Marine Institute, and DCCAE, as well as through contributions from our industry partners.Researchers in the Ma REI Centre have over 30 years of experience in conducting fundamental and applied research supported by competitively won national and international funding, and commercial contracts with government agencies and industry.Ma REI's strengths lie in the multi-disciplinary nature of its research teams, allowing it to combine insights across areas such as Marine Renewable Energy Technologies, Materials & Structures, Observations & Operations, Coastal & Marine Systems, Bioenergy, Energy Policy & Modelling and Renewable Energy Management.The research assistant technical will be assisting the PI on key aspects of two projects ATLAS and SED'up funded under the Atlantic Area Interreg Programme.The ATLAS project pioneers the use of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) on submarine telecommunication cables to provide a revolutionary, cost-effective solution for ocean monitoring, biodiversity conservation and coastal risk prevention.In addition to scientific research, Ma REI leads WP4 [Exploitation, sustainability, dissemination and communication, thus playing a significant role in policy engagement within the ATLAS project.The SED'up project aims to foster innovative approaches for beneficial reuse of marine sediments, supporting circular economy strategies in the Atlantic Area.The overall objective is to boost synergies to pave the way for re-use alternatives for local destinations and demonstrate that marine sediments are a valuable resource with significant potential.Ma REI leads WP 1 which concerns Analysis of opportunities & drivers for marine sediments re-use strategies.This sets the scene for the SEDUP project through a comprehensive review and analysis of the current state of the art in the beneficial re-use of marine sediments.Ma REI is also involved in providing guidance and advice on the implementation of pilot projects in Ireland and France and reporting on the value chain relevant to upscaling and diversification of sediment re-use and associated monitoring guidance.Project Title: ATLAS and SED'up Post Duration: 23 Months, Full -Time Post Salary: €33,791
