Community Support Worker, Galway (FTC- 31st December 2025, 37 Hours Per Week)Galway/Connaught Area- Role will primarily be based in the community.
This is a national service with travel required within your region of work.

What does the Adult Boarded Out Service do?The new Barnardos Adult Boarded Out service provides therapeutic and practical supports to adults who have experience of being boarded out as children.
Boarded out is a term used to describe children who were fostered or raised with families other than their own in Ireland, this happened mainly between 1920 and 1970 however the practice continued up to the introduction of the Child Care Act 1991.
The Adult Boarded Out Service has a national remit and the new Community Support Worker will join a therapeutic team based across the four locations.
What will my day to day look like?In this role, you will provide therapeutic and practical supports in the community to adults who have had experience of being boarded out as children in Ireland.
You will be responsible for the following:
Assessing the needs of adults engaging with the project.Traveling to clients homes and meet them within their own communities.Prioritising needs and devising an intervention plan in consultation with the Line Manager.Networking with other agencies in consultation with service users to ensure an integrated approach to meeting the client's needs.Reviewing progress on an ongoing basis with the Line Manager and adapt intervention plan accordingly.Liaising effectively with other statutory, community and voluntary bodies and to attend and contribute to meetings as required.What experience do I need?Commitment to the delivery of quality services to service users accessing the serviceAbility to work with people in an empathic and relatable mannerExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to assist people to develop their own skills and not to create dependencyUnderstanding the issues of confidentiality and the ability to establish appropriate professional boundariesAbility to work as part of a team and work co-operatively with other agenciesMature capacity to work with flexibility and sensitivity6-12 months relevant experience working in a community setting with vulnerable adultsFull driving licence and access to the use of a suitably insured car essentialSpecific experience in working in the field of adults impacted by adoption and foster care is highly desirable.Experience in providing therapeutic support to vulnerable adultsA minimum of a FETAC Level 5 in a social care related discipline is desirable.Candidates with significant experience specific to the post without a relevant qualification will also be considered.Good computer skills are essential.Additional information:Full driving licence and access to the use of a suitably insured car essential.
