Neonatal Transport Fellowship *2 posts January 2026 to July Months) may be extended to 12Months Location: On site - The Coombe Hospital and The National Maternity HospitalJob type: Fixed Term / Full-timeSalary: € 82,195 to € 100,597 Applications are invited for a two Neonatal Transport Fellowship positions in The Coombe Hospital, and National Maternity Hospital, Dublin. The Coombe Hospital, The Rotunda Hospital and the National Maternity Neonatal Transport Programme (NNTP) are committed to a philosophy and practice of quality management to ensure the best possible services to patients. This entails an organizational structure that: Devolves decision making and accountability, within clearly defined delegations, topatient care providers as close as possible to the consumer. Encourages and supports teamwork and coordination amongst staff.Develops the participation of consumers and workers in the planning and evaluationprocesses. The successful candidate will participate in Triage and stabilization advice processes with appropriate supervision.Audit activities.Development of research projects.Education activities specific to transport as well as general neonatology as offered byRotunda or Coombe teaching program. Clinical duties in NICU in a supernumerary capacity.Teaching activities within the transport programme. Some of these activities mayinclude Outreach Education in non-tertiary hospitals. The ideal candidate will have: A minimum of 12 months' experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Paediatrictrainee. A high degree of competence in the technical procedures related to NICU patients,including endotracheal intubation, cannulation of umbilical vessels and peripheral veinsand arteries, and emergency drainage of pneumothoraces. Ability to demonstrate independent expertise in the assessment and management ofcritically ill babies, including expert resuscitation skills. Good understanding of transport specific equipment.Qualifications & Experience Successful completion of MRCPI examinations or equivalent is desirable.Minimum of 12 months' experience in Level 3 NICU as a Paediatric trainee.Previous neonatal critical care transport experience is essential.Knowledge of the Irish health care structure is desirable.Overview of the position Position is tenable from January 2026 until July 2026. The key area of responsibility is toprovide medical care during primary neonatal retrievals. Fellow is expected to beprimarily scheduled for transport duties within the current agreed usual working hoursas outlined by local and national regulations. The Fellow may provide back up support in NICU when not out on retrievals. Outside ofCoombe/ NMH "transport weeks", the Fellow may participate in the work within acuteinpatient departmental setting or on board of the NNTP Critical Care Vehicles as taskedby Neonatal Transport Consultant. During this time, the Fellow is expected to progresstheir research project. Fellows do not participate on OPD workflow. Position is currently not accredited for training by the RCPI; however, NNTP seeks thisaccreditation in the view of proposed Irish Neonatal-Perinatal training scheme. This postis generally suitable as a standalone post outside of an HMT scheme. Salary is in accordance with current HSE pay scales for Registrars. Rosters conform withthe principles of safe working hours. There will be a requirement for on-call duty. Nights and weekends on duty for NNTP are currently non-resident (provided the post-holder resides within 30 minutes of base). Nights and weekend on duty forCoombe/NMH NICU (optional) are resident as per established hospital practices.
