Location: Dublin, Dublin International Study Centre
Salary: €36,500 per annum

The UCD International Study Centre in Dublin is looking for an Academic English Skills Tutor to join our
team.
Teaching on our International Foundation Year programmes, you will provide innovative,
engaging and student-centred lessons for our Academic English Skills and related modules.

ABOUT THE ROLE Plan appropriate, effective and inclusive learning programmes through schemes of work that take into account the diversity of the cohortPlan engaging and communicative teaching sessions which accommodate individualised learning using a variety of resources and in-house materials provided, including digital learningEnsure a broad range of learning materials are available on the VLE for students to access and engage with, including self-directed tasks and activities that facilitate feedback and interactionApply the principles of the centre's Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy to provide learning activities to meet curriculum requirements and the needs of all studentsSelect the relevant learning approaches and skill development to ensure students' progressContribute to the provision of a stimulating learning environment whilst adhering to the Centres' Health and Safety proceduresTeach a maximum of 25 hours per weekProvide cover when necessary.Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessmentUse a variety of methods to check learning in lessons (formative assessment)Ensure that interactive assessment activities are available to students through the VLEProvide regular and timely feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualificationsWrite summative assessments which appropriately measure the achievement of the learning outcomes of the modules (including repeat assessments)Prepare students for summative assessment through revision sessions and practice assessmentsEngage in standardisation and moderation of assessment materials and student work, including double marking, thorough and timely preparation of all relevant documentation for the external examiners, and participation in module assessment boards.Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student attendance and progressRespond promptly and appropriately to lapses in student attendance, punctuality, behaviour and application to their studies by individual conversations with students, referrals to personal tutors or referrals to professional servicesSupport students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during progress checksSupport student with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve aspirational targetsBe available to offer support to students as required (e.g.
workshops, booster and revision classes, tutorials and one-to-one feedback sessions)Support students to progress to the University by being proactive in liaising with University Schools and link tutorsContribute to student progress reports in a clear and constructive mannerStrive for and attain high levels of student achievement.Refer students for learning support where appropriateTake responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students in your care and referto support services where appropriate.Contribute to effective communication with stakeholders (sponsors, University, internal network colleagues etc)Be aware of and comply with all Centre quality assurance processes such as observation of teaching and learning, audits of teaching and learning material (including VLE content) programme and module evaluation and subject team performance reviewsDemonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist teachingConvey enthusiasm for personal specialist area to staff and studentsEngage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update subject specialist knowledgeUndertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing professional developmentComply with expectations of professional conductUse student feedback to improve personal performanceWork as part of the academic team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for studentsBe prepared to operate on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the academic team and the Centre as a whole.Be available to cover lessons for absent colleagues as requiredPrepare for and participate in appropriate Centre events (e.g.
induction activities, University school events, award ceremonies etc.
)Promote a cohesive work ethic within the academic team and the Centre as a wholeShare best practice and contribute to the academic team's bank of effective resources/ideas/activities for Teaching and LearningAttend team and centre meetings in accordance with the Centre's meeting scheduleImplement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of coursesABOUT YOUA Bachelor's degreeA minimum of CELTA qualification or equivalentA DELTA or related postgraduate qualification would be advantageousSubstantial experience in working with international studentsteaching EAPABOUT US
