Summary:
Our client, a pharmaceutical company located in North Wicklow, is seeking an
Automation Project Manager
to deliver automation system upgrades, control system enhancements and digital integration projects. The role involves managing the lifecycle of automation and IT/OT infrastructure projects, including design, vendor coordination, commissioning, qualification and handover.
Responsibilities:
* Lead automation and control-system projects from concept through delivery, ensuring compliance with GMP, data integrity and engineering standards.
* Manage upgrades to legacy automation systems, monitoring platforms and networked control systems.
* Oversee vendor coordination, design reviews, technical assessments and change management activities.
* Support development of project documentation such as URS, specifications, schedules, risk assessments, progress reports and commissioning documents.
* Drive integration of automation platforms with operational and IT systems for improved performance and reliability.
* Coordinate FAT/SAT, commissioning, qualification and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ).
* Lead risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies related to cost, schedule, technical performance and compliance.
* Ensure controlled execution of system cutovers, shutdowns and tie-ins with minimal impact to operations.
* Support budget preparation, cost estimation and capital approval processes.
* Provide on-site oversight for installation and commissioning activities and support handover to Operations, Automation and IT teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (Automation, Electrical, Controls, Mechanical, Chemical).
* Minimum 10–15 years' experience managing automation or control-system projects in pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing.
* Strong technical understanding of DCS/SCADA/PLC platforms, OT networks, system integration and data integrity requirements.
* Experience delivering lifecycle upgrades and modernisation of legacy systems.
* Strong communication, stakeholder management and vendor oversight skills.
* Experience with project scheduling, budgeting and cost control.
* Project management certification (PMP/IPMA) is an advantage.
