Charity Trustee – Finance Role
The Organisation:
The Neurology Support Centre is a Sligo-based charity, serving those in the Northwest impacted by a neurological condition. Our mission is to provide a range of quality services, supports and activities that will improve the quality of life for all those impacted by a neurological condition; to promote research that can make a tangible difference; and to support the provision of clinical neurological services in our local hospitals.
Our member services include peer support groups, counselling, holistic therapies including reflexology and neuro-reflexology, exercise classes and other recreational activities such as art, gardening, etc. We also provide vital transport for people attending our own services and other neurological appointments.
The Role:
The Neurology Support Centre is seeking to recruit a trustee with a background in finance. The Board are particularly interested in individuals with recent and relevant experience in financial management / budgeting. Experience of or interest in fund-raising would also be beneficial.

By being a trustee of The Neurology Support Centre, your responsibilities will include the following:
Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings and any additional commitmentsPolicy development and implementation as requiredAs a key member of the Finance sub-committee, responsibility includes monitoring and evaluating the adequacy of financial policies and controls and propose any recommendations for changeFinancial oversight / input into budgeting and managing costs
Desired Skills/Qualities required for these roles:
An appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sectorAn understanding of and commitment to our mission and valuesCommitment to highest levels of corporate governanceInterest or experience in fund-raisingA relevant finance qualification, ideally with at least 5 years senior management experience as an accountant, auditor, or Finance Manager/Director in the private, non profit, or public sector.Knowledge and experience of the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) Strong business acumen and the ability to understand complex corporate governance issues and risk quickly.
Board Meetings:
There will be 4 board meetings and up to 4 sub-committee meetings a year. Meetings are generally held in Molloway House, Sligo but can be joined remotely also.
You will be expected to attend training for board members as required.
