Senior Payroll Manager Ireland / UK
Permanent Contract
Location: Anngrove, Carrigtwohill, Cork
Hybrid Position
The Senior Manager Payroll & WFM is responsible for the Payroll & Workforce management administration for Ireland and UK. In this role, he/she oversees the payroll and WFM processes, the preparation and submission of weekly/monthly payrolls in each location, and ensures compliance with international rules, regulations, and laws for multiple entities and pay cycles. With the support of his/her team, the Senior Manager provides excellent customer service to the business. This role works with Senior Payroll, HR, Finance, and business leadership to drive performance optimization, scalability, and standardization of HR processes.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
* Manage the payroll and WFM team in alignment with Stryker leadership expectations.
* Provide coaching, development, and mentoring to the Payroll and WFM team to help achieve their goals and objectives.
* Oversee training and development of staff and validate skill acquisition by the team.
* Conduct managerial interviews and facilitate management processes (talent reviews, engagement questionnaires, annual performance reviews, and employee development plans).
* Ensure high-quality service of payroll and WFM processes across sites in accordance with international rules, regulations, and laws for multiple entities and pay cycles.
* Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees by implementing procedural controls and cross-checks.
* Approve all payments related to payroll and outside of payroll, such as pensions and payroll taxes.
* Provide excellent customer service as part of Tier 2 support.
* Oversee daily activities and escalate issues when relevant. Act as the contact person for employees and management in case of problems.
* Collaborate with Finance Teams for proper payroll accounting and employee-related accruals.
* Ensure proper implementation of SOX controls for payroll processes.
* Collaborate with the finance department for internal and external audits regarding payroll data (SOX control, tax, social insurance).
* Ensure smooth audit processes and serve as the main contact for auditors and internal departments.
* Prepare documentation for audits to run smoothly.
* Recommend and develop operational efficiency improvements. Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Internal Audit, IT, and external vendors to improve payroll and WFM systems, tools, and processes.
* Support and drive cross-region projects, balancing enterprise and local needs to simplify and harmonize processes across Stryker.
* Manage relationships with third-party providers to ensure compliance, streamlining, and achievement of deliverables.
* Coordinate and communicate payroll updates internally and externally with stakeholders.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
* 10+ years of work experience required.
* Previous HR or related experience required.
* Fluent in English; additional European language is an advantage.
* 5+ years in business-facing HR, HR COE, HR Operations, or related roles preferred.
* 4+ years of people leadership experience preferred.
* Experience in multiple HR disciplines or client groups preferred.
* Experience handling payroll across global geographies is an advantage.
* Excellent knowledge of payroll, international rules, regulations, and T&A software.
* Strong leadership skills, confident decision-making, negotiation, and influence abilities.
* Excellent presentation and communication skills.
* Analytical and problem-solving skills, process improvement orientation, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
