PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Construction Sector Transformation & Client Delivery Innovation
This role is part of a broader ambition to fundamentally change how construction is designed, delivered and experienced. The goal is to create a truly digital-first approach to construction – one that enhances the client experience at every stage, simplifies operations for project teams and ensures the long-term performance of the environments being built.
It moves beyond the traditional view of construction being completed on First Day of Business (FDOB), instead considering the full lifecycle of the building from Design to Last Day of Business (LDOB).
Central to this vision is the effective use of BIM modelling across all stakeholders, design team members and subcontractors – ultimately handing over and maintaining a useful, meaningful model or twin of the building to those who will operate and use it.
As Head of Digital Construction & Innovation, you will lead the development and rollout of a structured digital construction function, integrating BIM, VDC and modelling frameworks into one cohesive strategy. These digital processes will be embedded into project delivery – not as an add-on, but as a smarter, more collaborative way to build.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who understands both the technology and the reality of live construction sites – someone who can bring clarity, momentum and influence to an evolving part of the business. The aim is to make digital delivery a core competitive advantage.
KEY OBJECTIVES
* Deliver a cohesive digital construction strategy that spans from pre-construction to post-handover
* Build and lead a capable Digital Construction team focused on real-world implementation and continuous improvement
* Standardise the use of BIM, VDC and model coordination across major projects – driving clarity, accuracy and better collaboration
* Improve client experience through better visibility, real-time reporting & structured handover models
* Ensure digital tools are embedded in construction processes, supporting site teams and subcontractors from day one
* Ensure models are genuinely useful for end users, with a focus on improving the Human Experience for those who build, operate and use the spaces created
* Position the organisation as a progressive, digitally-enabled construction partner
* Identify and trial innovations that deliver measurable value to project delivery and long-term performance
* Collaborate with smart building and technology teams to drive integrated outcomes for clients
* Use data analytics to improve efficiencies, report progress and better predict outcomes
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Define and implement a clear, scalable digital construction strategy aligned with business goals
* Develop an integrated modelling approach that connects architectural, structural, M&E and facilities data into a single platform
* Set internal standards for model quality, coordination, clash detection and data integrity
* Create a practical roadmap for digital workflows across all construction phases
* Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure strategic alignment with growth and client expectations
Team Leadership & Capability Building
* Build a multi-disciplinary team of BIM Coordinators, Revit Specialists and Digital Construction professionals as required
* Establish team roles, structures and performance expectations linked to delivery outcomes
* Foster a learning culture that supports innovation, development and cross-functional understanding
* Lead the growth and evolution of the digital construction function over time
Project Delivery & Client Experience
* Integrate tools such as Revit, Navisworks, Revizto, Procore and Power BI into daily project delivery
* Develop client-facing dashboards and reporting models to improve communication and transparency
* Support the creation of intelligent, structured handover models to aid facilities management and ongoing building use
* Work closely with bid and delivery teams to showcase digital capabilities during tender processes
* Evolve post-handover support where digital processes can enhance building management. Explore how digital O&M handover can be expanded to include a Common Data Environment (CDE) supporting the entire project lifecycle
Innovation & Industry Engagement
* Stay informed on trends such as AI in design, AR/VR in construction and Digital Twin developments
* Trial emerging technologies that solve real-world site or handover challenges
* Lead pilot initiatives and evaluate scalability based on real value
* Represent the organisation at industry events and contribute to broader conversations around digital construction
Internal Collaboration & Business Alignment
* Work closely with Pre-Construction, Operations, Site, Commercial, Facilities and Design teams to ensure digital workflows support project needs from early-stage design through to on-site delivery
* Collaborate with internal digital transformation leads to align with finance, ERP & compliance systems
* Advocate for digital adoption across all levels – simplifying complexity and driving team engagement
* Bring a solid understanding of construction site processes and contribute to design development to ensure constructability, coordination and long-term performance are prioritised
CANDIDATE PROFILE
* Proven leadership experience in BIM, VDC and digital construction strategy within a live project environment
* Expertise in Autodesk tools (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD), coordination platforms (Revizto), construction management software (Procore) and data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI)
* Strong grasp of construction site processes and how digital tools can practically support teams on the ground
* Demonstrated ability to build and scale technical teams and embed digital practices across project workflows
* Skilled at balancing strategic vision with hands-on implementation
* Experience improving client delivery and post-handover outcomes through digital tools
* Confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders and lead internal and external change
* Active engagement with the wider construction technology community is a plus
