The Murphy Geospatial and Woolpert union enables numerous career growth and training opportunities within the business.SummaryMurphy Geospatial is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Department to lead and elevate one of our most cutting edge and client facing, technologically advanced teams. This is not just a managerial role, it's a client-facing leadership opportunity for someone deeply passionate about Structural, Environmental and Geotechnical Monitoring, and delivering measurable value to high profile clients.We're looking for someone with strong technical roots, who also brings a natural flair for leadership, outbound client relationship building, and solution selling. You'll be empowered to innovate, connect directly with clients, lead strategic project delivery, and grow our commercial footprint.What You'll Do:Department StrategyDevelop the departments strategy in collaboration with the Directors and Senior managers, keeping in mind the company's responsibilities to its shareholders, customers, employees, and other stakeholdersBreaking this down into individual objectives and communicating how these fit into the wider Murphy Geospatial objectivesResponsible for the department's yearly financial budget and responsible for achieving yearly sales targets with department managers' inputResponsible for research and innovation on new software and equipmentResponsible for Sales and Marketing plans to support departmental strategySales & Business DevelopmentBuild and maintain relationships with existing clients to encourage repeat business and initiate a sales pipeline in line with the company's Key Account StrategyIdentify potential and current competitors and analyse their services and pricing strategieTendering & NegotiationLiaise with clients to assess their specific requirements and recommend appropriate solutions along with pricing proposalsEngage with their internal team on their department, as required to ensure all proposals are in line with operational capabilitiesEngage with internal stakeholders, as required to ensure all proposals are in line with company processes, costing structures and operational capabilitiesTake a lead role in any dispute management as projects evolve, ensuring any learnings are implemented within the departmentMaintain client relationships throughout the project implementation phasePeople ManagementMaintain regular communications with the team to ensure project plans are progressing to schedule and problems are being resolved as they ariseProvide training and guidance to the team in exercising their roles and responsibilitiesSupport human resource processes within the department around recruitment, performance management, employee relations etc.Provide Input into performance appraisals and final sign off on remuneration agreementsQuality, Health & SafetyPromote positive engagement into the use and development of Quality Systems Ensure compliance with all regulations and internal policiesPromote a safety culture and ensure any learnings from near misses or accidents are implementedParticipate on the safety committeeWork closely with external clients and employees with regards various projects, reporting requirements and maintenance of required documentationGeneralFacilitate business growth by working together with clients as well as business partners (suppliers, subcontractors, JV partners, technology providers, etc.).Support organisational change initiatives as they are rolled out across the business with department managersProvide input and support to other departments as they seek to implement improvements that will benefit the CompanyFinancial: Support cash collection and billing optimizationLegal Risk Management: Understand contract processes and obligations; and possess awareness of UK lawRole Requirements:5+ years' experience leading high-performing teams within Monitoring, Geospatial Surveying, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a client-facing leadership or departmental head role.Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to spot opportunities, drive value, and influence stakeholders.Demonstrated success in building and growing client relationships particularly in infrastructure, energy, or public sector delivery.Proven ability to manage multiple technical projects and priorities simultaneously.Degree in Geomatics, Geospatial Engineering, GIS and Remote Sensing, Civil Engineering, or similar.Full, valid EU/Irish driving licence required.What You'll Get:A high impact leadership role at the forefront in one of Europe's leading geospatial innovation companies.Direct access to cutting-edge platformsA culture built on autonomy, ownership, and operational excellence.The opportunity to shape your team, your market, and the future of our industry.Competitive package: salary, company vehicle, pension scheme, sick pay, and benefits.Why Murphy Geospatial?Market Leadership: We're trusted by leading infrastructure, energy, transport, utility clients across Europe.Growth & Development: Join us during a phase of significant European expansion and digital transformationInnovative Culture: We lead with tech, and we back our people with the tools to thrive.Collaborative & Supportive: We believe in mentorship, progression, and team success.Murphy Geospatial HR PhilosophyOur people are a critical part of our success and represent the value of Murphy Geospatial through their actions and decisions every day.
