About the Role:
This role will sit in the wider Technology Solutions organisation within Virgin Media Ireland.
The Data Development Lead role will be responsible for development and maintenance of the highest levels of data competency, accuracy standards and data governance across the data warehouse. The Lead develops strategy for database design, leveraging data to gain a deeper insight into business and supports triage and resolution of complex data issues impacting downstream applications and services. The Lead champions and promotes best practices in data management for the full term of the data life cycle. Individual works closely with DBAs, delivery and support teams to ensure the strictest standards of PII protection and data security in all aspects of data management and reporting.
There will be a key emphasis on building and maintaining good quality technical components, ensuring that 3rd party development and support teams adhere to the KPIs defined.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
To define the strategy of VMIE databases supporting Channel Applications, Microservices and Data Transformation and Loading (ETL) processes
Manages technical roadmap of data impacted initiatives by:
Working closely with solutions management team, technology architecture, and applications development leads on data-driven and data-processes related initiatives, and solution requirement analysis (HLAs, CRs)
Ensuring consistency of process and usage, and champions best practices in all data managementactivity
Identifying continuous improvement and innovation opportunities on the existing database design and processes,e.g.throughDBperformanceassessments
Supporting Operations requirements, e.g. high-availability, scalability, monitoring
Participates in epic / feature refinements led by POBAs that impact data processes
Manages PI resource allocations, as per Technology Delivery business-demand
Engages in Technology Delivery planning and execution meetings (e.g. PI feature presentation, SoS)
Assists Technology Delivery in component releases go-live planning and operational readiness
Lead 3rd party team of database engineers supporting delivery and support teams, including database knowledge transfer
Ensures rigorous adherence to VMIE policies regarding PII protection and data security. Oversees data expiry practices and establishes and implementsprocesses for data archival andexpiry.
Hands-on Development and Coaching of Database engineers when required by:
Monitoring and tuning database resources and activities for SQL Serverdatabases
Building complex SQL queries for data analysis and dataextract
Build and maintain update and extractionprocesses.
Participate in the creation of technical documentation and trainingmaterial.
Develop production scripts, tables, stored procedures, views andfunctions
Develop quality control for production/campaigntasks
Set up new ETL feeds and QC asneeded
T-SQL, SSIS are the essential skills for this position. PL SQL and Snowflake knowledge advantageous.
Skills & Expertise:
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field
CSS/BSS/OSS experience in telecommunications companies, and knowledge of Business, Application and Technology Architectures.
Technical Software IT background with exposure to the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), and Databases.
Preferred experience in technical lead roles, e.g. IT technical project management, IT development, ideally with exposure to different delivery models: waterfall, agile, devops.
Strong analysis skills and technical experience, preferably in software delivery and integration within digital transformation programmes.
Experience in building, communicating, and managing technical roadmaps and schedules.
