Job Title: Mental Health Specialist - Homeless Population

Our organization is seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist to provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment, and care to individuals from homeless and socially excluded populations. The successful candidate will contribute to improved mental health, social inclusion, and multi-agency engagement across primary, community, and acute services.

* Key Duties and Responsibilities:
">
* Provide clinical leadership and direct consultant psychiatric care for homeless adults with severe mental illness, dual diagnosis, neurodevelopmental disorders, and complex psychosocial needs.
">
* Lead a multidisciplinary team in the provision of assertive outreach and integrated care services across community, shelter, and acute settings.
">
* Liaise closely with homeless service providers, addiction services, housing bodies, general practitioners, emergency departments, and other social care agencies.
">
* Deliver trauma-informed and recovery-oriented psychiatric care, with particular emphasis on patient-centred and rights-based approaches.
">
* Undertake Mental Health Act responsibilities, including involuntary admission assessments and tribunal reports as required.
">
* Contribute to clinical governance, service development, quality improvement, and audit in collaboration with hospital and CHO leadership.
">
* Support postgraduate training and supervision of NCHDs, MDT colleagues, and medical students.
">
* Actively engage in CPD, peer review, and reflective practice to ensure high clinical standards and continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements:

">
">
1. Registration as a specialist in Psychiatry (General Adult or Dual Training) on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland.
">
2. Membership or Fellowship of a recognised postgraduate training body (e.g., MRCPsych, FRCPsych, or equivalent).
">
3. Significant experience in providing psychiatric care to vulnerable and complex populations, particularly those with homelessness or dual diagnosis.
">
4. Demonstrated capacity to work in multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral teams in complex environments.
">
5. Strong commitment to social justice, inclusion health, and addressing the social determinants of mental health.

Desirable Criteria:

">
">
* Higher specialist training or experience in addiction psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, or social inclusion health.
">
* Experience in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and community-based service models.
">
* Proven track record in service innovation, research, or policy development in marginalised populations.
">
* Participation in teaching, training, and mentorship programmes.
">
* Experience with mobile or assertive outreach teams
">
