1. Role Overview
The Business Development Executive will play a key role in driving commercial growth across the Irish utility services sector. This position is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships, securing tenders, and expanding the company's footprint with utility clients and main contractors.
The ideal candidate has strong sector knowledge, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a proven ability to deliver growth in a technical services environment.
2. Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Opportunity Development
Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across power, telecoms, civils, renewables and DC segments.
Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities using CRM systems & e-Tenders.
Manage prequalification processes, bid/no-bid assessments and support strategic positioning for tenders.
Collaborate with Operations to produce compelling proposals, capability statements, and pricing submissions.
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
Build long-term relationships with stakeholders at utility companies and main contractors.
Attend industry networking events, conferences, and client briefings.
Conduct regular account reviews and deliver client development plans.
Commercial & Strategic Responsibilities
Work with senior leadership to develop and execute the commercial strategy for the business.
Support in provision of sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and market intelligence to management.
Support contract negotiations, framework agreements, and commercial terms.
Ensure efficient Data Management, control and distribution across the Organisation.
Internal Collaboration
Work closely with Operations, HSEQ, and Finance teams to support seamless opportunity handover and contract mobilisation.
Provide feedback from the market to inform capability development and service offering improvements.
Contribute to internal growth initiatives and cross-functional commercial planning sessions.
3. Skills & Experience Required
Essential
Minimum 5 - 8 years' business development or commercial experience in the Irish utility services sector (power, telecoms, civils, grid infrastructure, DC or renewables).
Strong understanding of procurement frameworks, utility tendering processes, and public-sector bidding & e-Tenders.
Proven track record of achieving sales targets and securing long-term contracts.
Ability to understand technical scopes, drawings, and project requirements.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Willingness to travel nationwide.
Desirable
Experience working with clients such as ESB, Irish Water, telecom operators, Renewables developers and Consultant Engineers or Tier 1 contractors.
CRM experience (Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent).
Commercial or technical qualification in Engineering, Business, Construction, or Energy.
